My zook has rusted around the fuel filler neck.

Thinking of hacking the whole filler assembly and flap out of the side of a donor car and welding it in.
Would need to be one with a electric release, and a flush metal flap.

The E series falcons all had a flush rectangular flap - and it is made of plastic.
The late model commodores are a round flap. the assembly would be roughly the same size as a zook - but I think they had a plastic flap too.

Any suggestions? It would need to be flat too - not from a car where the filler follows the contours of the rear guard or something.

plastic wont matter, you arent welding the flap!!!!!

most jap fwd have a cable release flap setup you could convert to electric

Vitaras have a key operated one, you could get it matched to the sierra key

You are right - it probably wouldn't matter that the flap is plastic.
Will have to cut out a square around the whole assembly and weld a whole assembly in.

It would just be nice if the flap bit is metal - because I will have to sand back the whole lot and repaint after it is welded in, and it would be nice to work with metal rather than plastic..

Did any of the commodores with an electric release have a metal flap?
Would be good to pick a donor vehicle that can be commonly found in a local wrecker I guess..

doesnt matter how it opens.. just wire up solenoid to do the job. i would use one out of a falcon if you went that way, easy as to get hold of and wire up

why not buy aircraft style fuller.. the aluminium looking ones.. they would be an easy as fit

Who sells those Aircraft style fillers? that could be an option.
Hadn't thought of that.

I think Falcon's fuel fillers are on the passenger side..... So after being hacked our and weld into the zook the flap would probably open the wrong way.
Commodore's are on the drivers side like a zook, but are cable operated, and the flap itself is made of plastic.
