There is a bit there, though the super coach is more likely to read a story of bracing one up and then replying with the time that he braced a tie rod with a bit of steel from teh harbour bridge they had down in the chook shed jsut for this day

Lolz harsh to your dad of course!!
But seriously dude if you quite good at chemistry and metallurgy then why the hell do these comments regarding the RTA come as a complete shock to you. Too much herbicide in the sippy cup??

It is definately a weldable grade.

Not everything is weldable what i was getting at is with 1020 grade steel it is not hardenable by heat treatment. sure you can soften it by heating and cooling but in relity the speed at which a weld cools in air is too fast for a real anneal to happen so welding it doesnt cause bad stress raisers. Other higher carbon grades and alloy steels undergo phase changes and all sorts of good stuff when heated and cooled and that is why subsequent heat treatments are required.
but like i said id be betting that those drag links are mild steel

Same here I welded some alloy to steel once. it was just the bird shit around the edge sort of holding it in place that made it stay there.
Anything can be welded, but not by joe average but probably by joe blow.....

Honestly i'd be more worried about people with WT Conversions or new Spring Perches.. Having poorly welded them on. Does noone care about weld quality anymore?
Where the fuck do you think a perch is going to go once the diff is bolted up with U bolts.
You only need to weld them so the pinion angle stays correct when you remove the diffs

You have know way of knowing if the average dumb shit that has picked up a stick welder from bunnings and taught themselves to weld, knows not to quench things.
Much easier to say no welding at all.

AFAIK want33s zook is unregistered and never sees the black-top. Not saying that this new drag link isn't stronger than the original, just pointing out the big flaw in the "want33s has it" argument.

how does what join together? the end to the bar? its drilled and tapped... the bar has been hex'd at each end to get a spanner on it, but its not reverse threaded one side, so to adjust it you take one of the pins out, turn it and pop it back in.

It could fly off and blow up the twin towers again.. Who knows? I'm not a mechanic by trade.
Bunnings?
Dude have you seen the $30 Arc Welders at SCA? LOL
My friend has one.. I can weld thick steel on 70-80.. He has to use 100(which is max) mine cranks to 140..
They don't make stuff like they used to!
