Ok, so quick question.

I've been looking everywhere for info on using hilux front leaf springs in the rear of the sierra. I'm looking at doing a rear up front very soon and thought about it and it seems like a good idea to do this at the same time.

From what i've been able to find i'm lead to believe the hilux leaf swap will move my diff back (how much?) and also being slightly longer (again, how much?) so using an extended shackle i should be able to get a bit more flex and a more comfortable ride.

so my main questions are

1. what model hilux front springs should i be looking for?
2. how far will this move my diff back?
3. what sort of height will i gain?

This is just my experience with them.

2" lifted YN65 fronts.
150mm longer from eye to eye, so you will need to move the hangers around.
Moved the diff 75-80mm.
Was less lift than RUF on sagged 2" springs, so I had to make some 3" extended shackles to level it out.

Shit swap if you ask me.

Go find a 50mm wide spring thats 100mm or so longer than what you have now.

I think that's what Mr Fat has in the ute, & the thing is as stiff as a stiffy..

You have to remove a few leaves to get them to work, i think there are only 3 leaves in my brothers ute, but i would have to check. With a little fine tuning it works really well. His ute runs the standard rear spring hanger with new rear crossmember for the shackles. Bout 6 inch extra wheelbase.

mines lux fronts all roun and spoa... 2 leaves in the front and 1.5 leaves in the rear. the leaves are dead flat to be soft enough to work properly, so in my opinion you need to be SPOA for them to work well, and even then im still considering a custom made main leaf pack in the rear to further soften it.

Mine are 4wd YN65 fronts. 3 leaves in the back. I reckon 1 leaf would be perfect for flex, but I'd need to use lowering blocks on the front end to level it out

There is more in the rear, i cant find a photo though at the moment. I will see if he has any tomorrow. It feels quite balanced as it sits.

see even that though seems to be a fairly decent gain. to be honest im not after coil spring-esque flex, just something fairly simple with a decent gain.

search longer leafs. Or look at the starting pages of my build thread. I did run mazdas. Now run rolla's. In rear.

Well if thats the case, for shear simplicity, just get a longer 50mm spring. That way you can still use sierra shackles, bushes, U-bolts and shackle hangers.

I was under the impression the hilux springs were 50mm springs? then again i have never had a chance to compare?

Well if thats the case, for shear simplicity, just get a longer 50mm spring. That way you can still use sierra shackles, bushes, U-bolts and shackle hangers.
X2 get a stock width custom main leaf made and life will be lovely

Yeah, they are wider than stock. I looked back through the photo's i have, the rear in that photo has no bump stops, the front has. I am guessing that is the reason for the lack of rear flex.

okay so that has answered my questions. not super keen on replacing chassis mounts to suit.

I guess my next question then, should i use my 2 inch lifted rears for the RUF? or will i be better off just buying new standards for the front?
