hmmm yeah ok, well i just went and try'd to loosen it off and its super tight! plus it doesnt help when theres not much light left or only have crappy tools.

steaky- im using a small laptop, are u talking about the very last pic? it shows some kind of clamps over the shaft? if thats the case then i have heaps if play left.

ok cool, i had another go and i just cant get it atm. will have another go tomorrow after work....yes i will be driving, no one has said anything about driving or not driving, if its not safe just say! ill give everything a spray with wd40 to try and free it up.

as long as the clamp at the box end is still tight your probably no worse off than before

wheel is on an angle cause its probably jumped a few splines, its a bit worrying when your steering lets go but you can usually pull over without dieing

yeah thats what i was thinking, i try'd to get it off but i couldnt get the angle right. so the socket just kept popping off.

i thought that might of happened, what would let it do that tho? front end coming up, having no weight on the joint and just moving?

ill go double check that its all tight but i cant see why it wouldnt be.

if your steering slips off who gives a shit if you die, what if you kill someones kid and survive.

fix it properly.

no not quite, somewhere in between where it is now and the black dot. if it was where the black dot is, it would be near the end of the splines at the firewall end. if i wasnt running a body lift then yes it could be where that black dot is, but its not possible for me to have it there unless i get an extension or spacer put in.

yeah atari i miss read that bit, i red the 1st bit (highlighted) then kind of missed the rest.

but yeah, how many times did i ask if it was safe for me to drive? lots, and i only got 1 reply saying that it should be ok. Taff- all you had to say was " i dont think its safe for you to drive, maybe think about getting a lift to work"

but its all done now, i have moved it in a good 1/2", you can no longer see the flat section.

only issue i have is and the reason why it was so tight....the bolt at the box end is stretched, and kind of looks like a boab tree. very slightly skinnier at the top while fatter at the bottom, the thread isnt perfect but still had some left. i tightened it back up, and will get a new bolt this w.e.

where can i get one from??

i didnt have time to fix the steering wheel, i will have to do when i fix the bolt. its not that annoying, just makes it hard to see the temp gauge.

i will upload a photo of the new spline length, but its just the same but you see less of it.

and royce, yes everyone is entitled to an opinion here and i welcome people to speak up, just people need to think before they type.

Oh ok, i thought it would be a special bolt? it had a spring washer on (nothing special) but under that washer it has a ring of vertical lines?? if there is nothing special about them them cool, ill get them from work. also the bolt has 2 vertical lines on top of the head , this mean anything??

mitch my mate works at west coast fasteners in balcatta - go in, ask for "MAL" or "Lyndon" (he goes by either)... take the bolt out in the carpark and he'll match it.

royce- the manual doesnt say anything about bolts, there isnt even the word bolt in the index lol. i have the haynes manual, can u have a look in yours prettyyyy please??

thanks Aron, ill keep that in mind. but i have conventry's fastners down the rd from work, so ill try there.

i guy at work recons that they are a special kind of bolt which is for the steering, and that there are designed to "stretch". he also said not to trust forums but i trust AZ more than i do him lol. so you can kind of disregard this sentence lol.

is there anywhere that will tell me, the length and thread of the bolt? i dont want to have to take it out again as i dont know if i can trust the threads strength of being removed then re tightened again.

Its not in a 1 litre sierra book, dont have any others here

come to think of it those vertical thingos are sposed to be to help lock it in the uni, doubt they do a lot

tell your mate not to be a hater if he cant read and type or thinks he knows everything and just go stick a bolt in it, or if you can wait till I am next near some spares I have one in a shaft, that could be a month though

yeah i was thinking about that, and that sounds like what they would be used for, tried to give suzistore a ring but they aren't open

well i would rather not just stick any bolt in there, it is kind of an important component. so i would like the correct one.
I would like to have it done by then lol, but next time ur there have a look incase i got the wrong one.
