My 99 GV has developed the transfer case slipping out of 4wd problem, so I was looking at my options to fix it.
- Replacment transfer case from a 01-05 GV
- Get the new gear installed in the existing transfer case.

Then I spotted this
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Suzuki-Transfer- ... 3ef4958bdf

Is there a way of telling/finding out if this will fix the problem? Does this look like a decent kit for the money? Will a transfer case rebuild be beyond the capabilities of a very amateurish mechanic like me?
Cheers

I would definitely find out wheat the problem is, before I ordered anything.

Maybe someone with more vitara experience can chime in, and tell us what the common causes are on vit cases.

It could be as simple as a shifter bushing, if they even have them on the vit cases.

I'd read that thread and my problem sounds exactly the same, jumping out of 4wd H and funny clunk noise in low range so I assume its the same gear wear problem that the early GVs seem to have.

I just thought this rebuild kit may an alternative to the replacement gear or whole new transfer case.

That kit won't help. The newer GV's have different profile of teeth the stay engaged better. Ring Suzistore, last time I was in Sean had fitted a new set of gears to a gv and showed me the difference. Was around $1200 from memory but that was labour and everything.

Will an XL7 transfer case fit a 2.5V6 GV?

I think that the input and output splines are different

Cool.
It seems the transfer cases are more than I was hoping. I've been quoted 1100 and 1500 from wreckers here in Perth, so it may work out cheaper to get the new gears put it.

I would get the gears done in your case as well. Then you know you have a fresh T/C. You can't be sure the one you buy from a wrecker is the right year aswell.

I've found one in NSW for $500 plus another $100 shipping to Perth. How hard will it be to swap them over? Anyone done one?
