Hi guys, rackin my brain, had this problem for the last week now, iv got a VERY bad vibration clunking noise through the whole car only in 1st but only under load, I can idle all is fine, 2345 fine under load, checked all uni"s , engine, box and transfer mounts, it's got me stuffed,,

Any ideas???

Gotta be in the gearbox then, maybe a collapsed bearing. Do you have another box you could try?

Nope, unfortunately not, got plenty of 1.3l geerbox"s but no Toyota t50"s

All my gearbox failures have happened in 2 gears.
But I guess it depends how it is constructed.

Jack it up all 4 off the ground,
then let it run in 1st while you listen and feel for noises, in 2H 4H and 4L
...carefully,
don't want to get hair caught in moving parts etc.

i'll try that, if it is the box, great, I've been wanting to put an auto in for ages

wrap some fat zipties around your transfer mounts and try that

ive found funny vibes when taking off and in first gear a lot of the time can be effected by the transfer mounts, both too hard and too soft so just altering them a bit can change it enough to know its the cause

Clunking noise? Maybe also check your u-bolts while your under there.

Ok so I found the vibration, yey!!! It was an ablaloutly flogged out gearbox mount that visually looked good, but rubbers were soft az giving motor enough movement to twist and hit on the brake booster and vibrate like Fu@$, only found it with the bonnet up given it the berries up the street, motor had heaps of movement, so now I noticed that the engine mounts are looking bit average and well used aswell, what is an heavy duty option swapover for Sierra mounts????????????
