Pretty low for even 31s, especially in high range...

Really? It has 4.1's now. And WT's are 3.7's so that makes it taller. Then you add the 5.1 transfer gears which are only 6% lower than the standard 1L case in Hi, and I'd say he need more gearing, not less.
For 30-31's and a 1L motor You should aim for 6.5 transfer, and if that not low enough get some 3.9 NT centres or 4.1 WT maruti centres. Otherwise the 5.1 transfer and some 4.6 vit r&p's would work also.
You MUST keep the 1L revvng.

I guess... I haven't crunched the numbers for a 1L so I could be way off the mark with my guesswork... Of course, I didn't initially notice it was a 1.0L...

Yeah well if you think its bad to be undergeared in a 1.3, just image have 30% less power with those same gearing issues!
1L are a great thing offroad, but suffer from large tyres exponentially more than the 1.3 does.

That will be the easiest/ cheapest way. 6.5's are great value for money.

It is.....
The 1L has 12% lower Hi-range gears than a 1.3 sierra already, so the reduction is far less than it would have been for your 1.3L.
