hi guys. just thinking about what size winch to get for my sierra. few ideas going on.

im thinking about getting a 12000lbs one. my reasoning is incase i have to pull one of the big trucks out of some mud or something. dont wanna be stuck there with a say 6000lbs one to suit my car but no good for others.

6k is plenty- they are fast and light. 12k winches are big and slow.

I think I'm putting a 9k in mine, but only because I own it, i'd buy a 6k if I was spending my money

Remember, you have a pissy little zook chassis that this winch is going to be connected to. I would rather have a 6000lb (possibly 9000lb at most imo) that'll happily/safely recover ME. I'd rather have my smaller winch run out of power than tearing my front end out tryin to recover a full-size 4wd with a bigger winch.

12000 would be over kill. id go about a 8000 Tigerz11 just because the 6000 only has 20mtrs of cable and the 8000 has 30mtrs (See KPD4x4 in the auszookers business directory for prices).

If you want to pull out big trucks get yourself a winch extension strap and a snatch block. You hook the extension strap with the snatch block to the Patrol (or whatever) then run your winch rope for your sierra through the snatch block then to a tree. That way halve the load is on the zook and the other half is on the tree. Even better butt the bullbar of the zook upto a tree to so it doesnt just drag you along. (if you have enough trees around)

Ive always thought bigger was better. I had a 12,000lb winch on my old sierra. didnt weigh that much more that a 9000lb. I used it more times pulling othere unstuck than on myself. Either way a 12000 is hardly gonna struggle on a pissy sierra.

The 9000lb Premier winch on the front of my zook seems to do ok. Only went this big as the price was right, ie free

I would get a warn high mount.

Others are mostly painfully slow. Invest in some rope as well to reduce alot of weight.

Warns are basically the pick of the lot and you should get one for around $1000 second hand + or - a bit.

I had a warn 6000lb on mine for years. a 20year old pig of a thing It was slowww, but it never failed to recover me.
Done well over 100 self recoveries at a guess and always got the job done.

I've recently upgraded to a tigerz 10,000 through Dank. Mainly for the benefits of rope plus a higher retrieve speed under load.

With any winch, make sure your mounts spread the load through the chassis and don't rely on the factory bar mounting points.

No, but if you are truly, properly stuck and you have an overrated winch you're gonna tear a Sierra in half...

I winched some stupid heavy loads in my sierra where i had to chain myself to a tree and it never did ny chasis damage. 12000lb winch stalled out pulling a submerged 80series out of a river. All it did was bend the tongue on the tow bar. I know a sierra chasis is not very thick but if its mounted properly and not just relying on the 4 holes in the end of the chasis you shouldnt have a problem.

I sent him a pm asking when the winches were ready. Then it turned up today. Not sure when dank sent it, but I wasn't exspecting it so fast. You should get it pretty quick

I even had to test it out, I couldnt wait
