Has anyone had any experience with the 6 ply treps that come in 30 x 9.5's? Are they a good tyre for the money? I'll be running a g16b, 6.5 gears and stock WT diff gearing. Will these tyres be too small for driving on the highway? Ps. In a Sierra.

30s will be far to small to use with 6.5s

My mate runs exactly the same combo in his sierra, except he only has 4.16:1 gears. Runs VERY well. IMO you should get some 4.9's if you don't plan to run bigger tyres than 31".

Treps go very well offroad from what I have seen. They bag nicely at 14psi.

As in 4.9 diff gears? I've already got the 6.5 transfer gears.

How's his go driving round on the road Fatz? Can he sit comfortably on 110 or is it ringing it's neck with such high gearing and only 30's?

I run 30" Treps with 4.16 as well as a G16b and it's awesome! You wouldn't need any lower transfer gears, heaps of power on the road and it's plently low enough in 1st low to crawl everything I've pointed it at! IMO don't bother with 6.5s on anything under 32's, it's just way too low for general 4wding.

If you sell your 6.5's to Joel, buy the 4.9:1 transfer gears from Lowrange. They are slightly lower than the 4.16's, and will give you gearing to suit 30-32". That way you can always jump up a tyre size or 2 without having to re-gear. I think the 4.9's are about the same price as the 4.16's anyway.

Ok so next question. I'm looking at running a Aw4 or the trimatic. Assuming I keep the 6.5's and run a 32 how would these autos work with the tyre size and the 6.5's? What would my highway revs be at 110k's an hour? For both boxes. Anybody else run this set up? Any experience with it?

Trimatic will be WAY too low geared. I get 4250rpm @ 100km/h and an actual 30" tyre, 4400@29"

An AW-4 will gear you back to about 3500rpm @ 100km/h with a 29" tyre.

AW4 is the answer. Fair hassle to fit though, wheelbase wise. Jackshaft and rear driveshaft lengths become a fair balancing act.

I've been involved in a couple of Trimatic builds and recommend them for over 33" tyres, but they are pretty hard to make workable under that.

I'm going AW-4, but I am LWB.

Ok, So what if I went to a lower reduction in the transfercase. Like 4.9's or the 5.12's? Will this make the trimatic bearable on the highways? It's not gonna be used for rock climbing, it's gonna be used to get out to our hunting spots, will have a bit of mud work to do.

yeah with 30's i have a g16b in mine with 30x9.5 maxxiss 764 bighorns with neg 12 offset f100 rims stock wide track transfer gears atm also have stock wide track diff gearing would it be worth me spending the bucks to get the 4.16 gears? what rpm will it do at 100kph with stock transfer gears? i havent got it regoed yet been going over the zook fixing anything i can to make it awesome.

imo 30's are the best ive ran 31's with stock transfer case of a 1.3 and it sucked 30's and the g16b are a lot different but wondering with the transfer options as well is it really worth it?
