Hey guys ive searched around but not found much on this, I was wondering if the swivel hubs on a 89 sierra are adjustable? mine have a fair bit of slop in them (nearly a cm at each end of the wheel when you rock it!) is this normal or do I need to rebuild them? any help or advice would be great

How do you mean when you rock it? Up and down? Side to side? Sounds like wheel bearings.

yh when i rock it up and down and nah i found out when i did my wheel bearings i tightened them up but you can see the movement in the back of the hub

Take a shim out of the kingpins and see what that does

fuck that take all the shims out and grind some off the mounting surface where the shim used to be.

or put new bearings in, thats probably the best option :wink:

Just tightening your bearings might not be enough. they may be shagged mate. I'd do your wheel bearings.

yh ok thanks guys ill try takin out some shims or add them which one? and if that doesn stop it ill do the bearings?

I just finished rebuilding mine completely, it's like driving a completely new vehicle!

All I can say is that if you're rebuilding the whole thing to the letter, give yourself more time than you initially think!

Oh and you could try taking the shims out first, I actually had broken kingpins on the bottom on both sides, after replacing those and all the bearings and seals (which were non existent) everything is awesome.

Replacing them all is definitely the best option if you have the time and money.

I run no shims and it's tight as fuck :blink:

Just double check that you wheel bearings are up to spec, if still not fix then look at kingpin bearings like Joe said

to tighten them up take shims out but it sounds like they've collapsed or not far from it.
