hi l am stuck between the choice of the new tough dog suspension likft kit and a body lift kit which l have heard is great and also the calmini 6 inch combo lift kit, has anyone used either what do u all think works better, do u need a engineers certificate for either, this is all for a suzuki vitara 1990 jlx.

What size tyres do you want to run?

Keep in mind the bigger you go the weaker everything gets so you have to factor a new front diff, lots of spare CV's, maybe rear axles, diff or transfer gears

Off the shelf the calmini lift is probably the best kit but nobody makes a great system, its all mix and match

Bodylifts dont seem to add much in teh way of clearance in a vit either so its worth considering other means to get clearance

is there any parts that u can replace the factory ones with that are very reliable and near unbreakable.

old man emu springs, and 50mm coil spacers,
and some shaping/bashing/cutting of guards.

is it going into a LWB or a SWB & what type or terrain/4wding do you plan on doing?

the alloy front diff can be replaced with a couple of different options. eg. calmini anvil/GV 3rd memeber or a complete GV steel housing & steel 3rd member.

cv's are the weak point if abused.

terrian is basically everything l go on the beach a bit, mud as much as possible and rocks and hill climbing occassionally

Is only the inner guards, nothing visible.
But you can limit up travel, with eg bump stop spacers,
to save cutting guards.

They are legal if you get the paperwork, fit the bodylift and then take car to Main roads for inspection.

i'm happy with my calmini kit in my vitara, although it does need some tweaking to get it to perform how it should. if you've got a spare couple of minutes have a look through my build up thread.

i'm running 31's with a 2" bodylift + 3" calmini super articulator kit modified with calmini GV front springs, OME front struts, bumpstop extensions, rear calmini 3" springs, commodore shocks + bumpstop extensions. the springs have settled nicely to about 2.5" with the weight of the 2.0L J20a, front bar, bash plates, rear drawer system & fuel tank guard brings the weight up to close to what calmini suggest it rides a lot nicer.

Ok thanks so l wont get the calmini body lift but l might get the suspension although with new control arms it has to be engineered yes so l think l migjt go the tough dog kit with adjuable shocks

they r illegal unless mod plated, should have stated that earlier sorry, I only say this from working with DOT queensland. I see many 4x4's getting defected by cops because towner have body lifted their rigs and not mod plated them and comming in and complaining...

i run this but without the coil spacers, so yeah pretty low. have 1.5" bumpstop extension on the rear.

i voted calmini, but use the other BL. buy one from just cruizin on here. i didnt buy calmini because it was to expensive at the time, already had a 2" bl so would of been to tall with only 29s. i also dont have a steel bar/s or any additional weight.

Get it right.
There is NO MOD plate (blue plate) for a body lift. You only get paperwork that you keep in your glovebox.
