Hey all I've got an 06 Jimny without the factory roof rails. I was wondering if there is any that mount straight to the sides of the roof or must I find some factory rails?

You can get aftermarket roof racks for your Jim. Unsure brand though.

Original Jimny roofracks are held on by studs welded through the original body from factory. So possible to do, but it will be very messy and time consuming.

Something like these, Rhino Sportz, though you will need to drill some holes in your roof to pop rivet the rails on.

some of the prorack ones clamp into the door recess might be able to work something out with them and one of the fitting kits

Yeah might be easier to find stock roof rails from a wrecker and go from there. They should fix on straight away I suppose?

You will be better off running aftermarket racks ONLY

Ring 'Rhino' and other makes and see what they recomend?

Rhino rack mate, they have 2 version, one for rails, one without.
the ones without have a track you have to pop rivet onto the bare roof, then the rhino rails go from left to right, and you can slide them to adjust fwd/back distance. much better than the stock ones IMO

No leakage problems doing it this way with pop rivets?

I would use a good silicone, and paint the drilled holes before you put things together. Will keep the rust away.

i think the kit comes with a sort of tape that goes under the rail also. but yeah, paint and silicone is king.

I was told Silicone is water based, therefore will rust? Sikaflex is the better option I was told...

I will be doing mine soon.

There may be some out there, But seem to be hard to search for.

I binged for "silicone water based" Keep coming up with lubricant for anal.

So it really depends on the type/choice of silicone. Sika is a brand. Not a type.
