I Have been warned not to get one because the clutch cable will snap. Has anyone tried one and had any problems?

i think i read on here on a old post there was a easy fix to this problem its been asked a few times b4 so have a search and see if u can find it if u cant some1 on here probs know what 1 im talking about

There's no need for a hd clutch in a Sierra
Standard one does just fine, the stress the hd clutch will put on the cable over a period will eventually snap your cable

I have had a hd exedy in mine for over 5 years. Have not snapped one yet.

yeah exedy hd in a sierra works well, other brands of hd dont

exedy hd in a vitara is the fail

i go for a custom clutch from npc that is heavy duty but the springs are adjusted so its not as hard on the pedal

Thats what i did.

Or just get a standard Excedy.
I went though 2 cables with the HD clutch and it was really heavy on the pedal. Plus you dont really need it. HD or standard it still wont last long if your riding the clutch all the time.

HD Excedy feels the same as the original clutch. I;ve had one for two years and no dramas.

i used to have issues with the outer of the clutch cable pulling apart and squashing..

I just replaced the standard clutch on my sierra on the weekend after 4 years of solid abuse with the first 3 years running 31's on standard gearing.

The only reason I did this is because the pressure plate had dropped a couple of fingers but the clutch disk itself was as good as new.

I may be wrong here and feel free to correct me but a HD clutch seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.

I've been running mine for 3 years with no problems at all.
Pedal isnt really much heavier then standard.
I think the HD clutches snapping cables is a bit of an internet myth.

I think i might be in need of a new clutch in the near future guys, reckon its worth the extra cash for the HD over a standard?

What would you be looking at paying for one?

If you have gearing, and even an ounce of mechanical symapthy, there is no need for a HD clutch.

In fact, I don't think you even need any mechanical sympathy if you have gearing.

Piggles has a 1.0 sized clutch, an ancient pressure plate, a flywheel that has never been machined, and a stock replacement exedy pressure plate.

I hate on it mercilessly, and it has given me zero problems (except she I filled it with mud - to be expected)

I didn't have the option of a stock suzuki clutch, but if I had a 1.3/1.6 that's what it would be getting - a factory suzuki clutch. Yes they are more expensive.

From what I have seen, these are the most tolerant to water/mud, resist heat the best, and give the best feel.

If you have crook gearing a heavy duty clutch is just a band aid for a gearing problem - like saying you need more power to compensate for big tyres.

Ive i've had my clutch so full of mud it wouldn't disengage properly and was heavy as all hell and still wheeled all day like that.
It started to bend the fins on the pressure plate and had no effect on the cable.
To me thats a fair bit of load to have on the cable wheeling all day
I've never oiled or cleaned the cable and it still operates works well.

Maybe you've been unlucky with clutch cables or maybe i have a realy strong cable.

Maybe I had a bad run.... who knows. But it did make me realise that a HD clutch is just not needed. I've never had a standard clutch slip with proper gearing installed.
