the hate of 80mm lift is that height doesnt equate to capability, for me its like springing over, and then only fitting 31s.
My pet urk at the moment is all the "lets buy 80mm of lift, 235s and twin lock our jimnys" and then proceed to wheel on forest tracks, smooth hills and sand dunes!!
Wheres the innovation,? the challenge of driving challenging terrain.
sorry but, buying bolt-ons for your jimny to me isnt modding.

I think the point was that with all zook's it seems getting out the grinder is inevitable to achieve a well balanced setup. If you want more real capability then past a reasonable lift about 50mm and lockers then some grinding is the next logical step to fit larger tyres. After that it's custom links, shock/spring/strut mounts etc to get the most articulation possible out of the limited physical constraints of the vehicles actual size. If you are lifted sky high and rolling on 235's and driving chicken tracks then it really just is a wank factor having the extra 30mm isn't it?

Yep i agree. Only time i see big lifts as "needed" or "useful" or whatever, is people who just plain drive into a mud hole and call it a day out wheeling.

All you people hating on the 80mm lift, what is your experience with it? My guess none, so unless you have played around with the lift and jimny suspension you don't know what talking about. Imo 3" of suspension lift with 30-31s is great on jimny, at least for WA terrain.

sorry but, buying bolt-ons for your jimny to me isnt modding. That last 30mm may well mean the diff between getting there, and getting stuck on the chassis. In my play zone, chassis height does mean a lot, maybe my new build will be different, I do hope so, I hate being on a hill with 4 wheels in the air, suspended about midships, no diff lock can help you there.

Mine is a smudge over 100mm and handles great. In fact I'd say it handles just as well as a stock Jimny with the super soft stock coils and comfy ride shocks. I think at least half of the Jims I've seen being parted have been stockers. Driving has a lot to do with rolling and I have seen a few P plates on pics of rolled Jims. Not having a go at P platers but let's face it experience makes for driver skill, not hours spent on Gran Turismo. As with any 4WD it should be driven as a 4WD and not a drift car.

Thanks Joel. Yes my car is rather high, but that's only cus I have 40mm coil spacers in the front to get it to sit level. How ever, it is also very wide now. So height vs track width increase makes it rather stable, along with the longer bump stops in the rear. White jimny on the left has 3" lift, 235s and 0 off-set the rims. I don't see my height as been a issue....

Well to all the big lift haters I drive a jimny with 6 inches of lift and 31s minimal guard chopping and it doesn often get unstable. Running twin lockers and 31s I also have a jimny with 50 mm lift and 31 while be reasonably stable and still pretty decent wheel travel. I get caught up on my chassis often. Nothin wrong with lifted vehicles if u drive them correctly.

Smiffkid, you've made an important comment about your terrain.
I don't think it's an accident that there seems to be A) more jimmy's and B) more tall jimny's being used off road in WA.
In Vic, if you need 31" tyres on a jimmy for capability, it's going to get pretty broken pretty quickly. If you decide to run 6" of lift to clear those 31's, it's going to get broken even quicker because it's going to fall over. That's my experience.
Steve.

Hey Steve, whats the lowest jimny you have seen on 31s or bigger? Was there not one on 32s with no lift over your way?

Yep. 32's (285 85 16) 1" lift. Bumpstop spaced and cut to the whaoo. Very stable for a jimmy but broke driveline like it was going out of fashion. Mitch, it's owner, isn't even a very aggressive driver, certainly nowhere near as hard on the car as me. IMHO though, Jimny's aren't inherently stable. The radius arm rear end wants to unload and the COG is quite high in the rear due to all the glass/body. Steve.
