Im sorry but not everyone here has the experience/knowledge/tools to do a custom job.... or the money to paid to someone to do so

Nothing wrong mate. But alot of people just buy them for appearance sake. And thats fine too. I just think that there are alot of people who don't look past the cool factor of big lift, to see the harm it has on drivability of a vehicle that is not designed for that sort of elevation. :|

Steve, I had typed a couple of responses to some comments here and then thought I'd have a look back through the HEDGEPIG build before posting to get a handle on some of your comments. Fantastic! Hadn't looked for quite some time and it truly has become quite an engineering marvel.
I now better appreciate some of your recent comment direction, I still think you're basing your comments on not accepting that everyone wants something different and not necessarily looking to drive your sort of terrain, but I get where you're coming from.

Would be nice if you could get a measure mid way of the wheel base from ground to underside of your chassis rail as a comparison. Would be interesting to know how it compares to an 80mm lifted Jimny.

The there's the width of the rims/tyres to compensate for any height.
And Jimnys aren't a ute. There's no real point.

I had a great day out hard wheeling.

My CVs held up to some pretty hard pulls, my rear radius arm mount caught on a few rocks and I pinched a tyre.
And I was driving everything dan drove. Angle for angle. Line for line.

Next on my list is 3-link the front.

In reply to steve.

Thanks, stealth mods are awesome, my old lwb ran lifted TC, $4000 TBI/engine rebuild, Cressida PS, RUF, and when you stood back it looked like I had put a set of 235s on it and driven it to the bush for a picture.

But that's what I wanted, and that's what my Jim will be.

I know I said this before, but if someone was selling a streched tintop Sierra, with coils, AC, PS, injection, no rust, completely engineered, only thing it needed to be really really reliable was chromo's, wouldn't it sell for around 6-7K? If you were to build a Sierra to that point (not dodgy, reliable) it would cost you way more then that.

Mine was 5k, and all it needs is chromo's and I'll be able to wheel all day without a worry. The Jim driveline is strong except the CVs.

You'd hate to have me around then.... I get the shits when I put less flogged out leafs in the front of my LJ and it sits higher. Its took about 3 months of flogging the shit out of them to get them to the nice flat ride height they are now :) (and the car is most definitely the best it has ever been now). I will probably be pulling out the springs on the cars next incarnation, and resetting them to flat before I even drive it :) .

if its only 30mm then why go from a 235/75r15 (28.8") to a 31" tyre - thats only 27mm taller too =)

my sierra is wider than it is taller, and by a fair bit... plus added unsprung weight making it far more stable than stock... the argument of 80mm spring lift gwagen is trying to make is that you're not adding as much width as you are height, so inevitably you'll end up with a less stable vehicle... running 80mm and 31's means you're about 5.7" (143.5mm) taller than stock =)

C'mon there's totally a point, strictly thinking COG. Rim offset aside because going wider is reasonably easy. Tyre height is also not what we are talking about here, topic being 80mm on a Jimny. What I'm interested to know is what is considered too much height and the chassis seems like a pretty obvious place to gauge this.

I'm guessing that wheel track aside, my Jim and Hedgepig will have their sprung mass a similar distance from terra firma.

sprung mass isnt totally relevant though, as unsprung mass (low down) is going to dramatically affect CG, and you can't set width aside because that also affects CG, and to say its easy to go wide isnt true either - theres limited rim choices to go wider, and the 12.5" wide krawlers alone are adding more width than the rims are. The height of the chassis has a bearing on CG, sure, but theres too many other factors to compare the 2 vehicles so basically.

13.5" Krawlers.

And yes. They're too different to compare that way.

It seems we have a New Jim battle. So instead of the Sierra vs Vitara, We have a new contender.

The Jim should be against the new GV moreon's!

This thread is just the same as pootrols vs cruisers vs rovers  :deadhorse:

Liz for something more like an accident, and hers was a stockie, and Bugsta... not remember if he had 80mm or 50 and BL... but his was more of a driving style and bad luck and wrong line... I was there for the last two flips and it wasnt the "30mm of DEATH!!!" who did it

thats a bit of a flawed argument though really... look at the sierras that are being rolled (and how many of them there are) and what they're driving vs. far less jimnys with far less mods/tyres not driving as crazy tracks and not having as blasé drivers. if there were as many jimnys on 31" plus tyres with complete disregard for panel damage (like most of the sierra drivers on here) then i reckon the rollover rate on jimnys would be pretty similar to sierras =)
