Nice work Chop.

I take it you had to drill 4 new holes to fit it?

Also would you be able to measure up the base plate of the hitch for me please? The part with the mounting holes

Im keen to get a swb tub trailer started! Just something i can take camping and rip up to bunnings with if i need too.

Got most of the ideas from 303zukes and built4trashings ;)

Anyone got any more photos of zook trailers? Ive found a few in this thread, but anymore of the build process?

Thanks guys!

Yeah i drilled 4 new holes. They don't have a template for this one on the site yet.
The base of the hitch is 155mm x 100mm and the holes are roughly 100mm and 75mm spacing.

Not quite what you're planning to build but here's a link to mine in case you haven't already seen it.

Yeah its something i need to consider i think. Maybe just using the tub and making up my own chassis using smaller springs as well to cut that weight down a bit more?

Just a bit  if were going to build one I'd make a chassis the same style as the one that the fella with the turbo jimny on here built

Fitted up the new oz-hitch 2.5, just need to get some more chain coz mine is too short now.

I like how this gets the trailer further away from the spare tyre. My regular hitch is too close to the tyre meaning it would touch if I went off road, I would remove my spare. Although this style hitch also is so low it probably would clear by miles even if it wasnt longer

Haha yeah Joe thought to mysel I'd get more results putting samurai trailer not sierra

Thanks for the video too!

I've been thinking today, using still the sierra tub but making a rhs or square chassis? As I'm thinking the weight will be a lot less than the sierra chassis? Opinions?

X2

Mine was so heavy for its size. I would suggest not using the Sierra leaves too, although as the guys in the Youtube clip did, position the springs as wide as possible. They are quite soft leaves for a trailer.

Yeah I think I'll just get some little trailer leaves, hopefully cut the weight down a bit more to :)

Go for trailer springs with shackles. I have slipper springs which suit my trailer's purpose but limit my options as far as offroad'ability.

Hey guys just a quick question, building the trailer from RHS or SHS and running some leaf springs, would i want to include shocks or is it unneeded?

If using slipper springs, or rebound slippers, no need for shox.
But if using shackle springs of a softer nature, then shox is wise.
Just my opinion, can't back it up with any technical knowledge :)

Rebound slipper, note the lower spring catches rebound/drop of axle,
and prevents it rattling around.

Image

Normal slipper, lower spring flat against upper spring, so rattles around,
but friction against trailer is the bounce stopper.
I believe both slipper types wear trailer chassis,
so a helper bit of extra metal is wise.

Image

My preferred leaf spring is shackle/eye to eye spring.
Less wear on chassis and bushed for longer life and quiet.
I think these should use shox, as theres nothing but the leaf friction to dampen bounce
