So I just got my car roadworthy and mod plate for 2 seater. I asked to get my 2 inch body lift done and he said they don't have to be and he said if you go over 2 inch it's deferent and a mod plate is required.

Yep I'm in Queensland and this was yesterday I got it done. Didn't even have to get a mod plate for cutting my lwb down to a ute as the I'd plate already saids it's a Sierra ute. There's some heads up for others that chop there lwb sierras.

The 2" body lift rule has been in for a LONGGGGGGGGG time but has just now been changed to a blue mod plate. Before that you had to apply to the DOT and then go over the pits to get your paperwork.

Mate I got my roadworthy and mod plate yesterday and I specifically asked about the body lift because I read this post a few days ago. The bloke who owns and runs the business is 79 years old. I think he would know what has to and has not got to be mod plated after being in the business all his life.

My soft top had some super awesome boat rollers in it. They did the job even though they weren't 50mm on both ends. There were certainly strong enough like that, I expect a proper block with out crush tubes(as im using now) will be just about fine in most cases. Surely with a check over once in a while problems would be picked up before they became a problem...

Good to see the law has changed though, not that the rest of my soft top could be engineered.

I'm not calling you a liar at all but I know that you need either paperwork for a 2"bodylift or now a mod plate.
Good for you to get away with it. But good luck if you get a smart arsed DOT or cop if ever you get picked up and they send you over the pits

Ad I know a vit that got a roady with a bodylift by getting a mod plate with the exact code they are now using some 7 years ago, doesnt mean its actually legal

Just means like most people that have a small amount of dealing with gov depts, they know stuff all of whats actually going on

I bought a Sierra once which had a valid safety certificate. It had a body lift made of 2mm wall RHS, illegal tyres, it struggled to get to 80km/h on the highway and just about every driveline component leaked.

Just 'cause you can get a safety certificate doesn't mean your vehicle is actually roadworthy or complies with the law.

I found 9 times out of ten if a modd platter tells you,you don't Need to get some thing approved its because they are not approved for that code but they still want to take your money for the rest. I have just had both my body lift and chop approved and they are both under the k3 code which was for heavy veichles but can now be used on cars. Obviously he dosnt have this code. As for a roadworthy my can pased and was driven for 5 years on a body lift every got pulley up by transport once and never had any mention my body lift.

Just as an add on to this. Just got a call from qld transport saying that my g16b conversion into a Sierra only needed a mod plate. I specifically asked if it had to go over the pits and he said no. Sweet

That's always been the case though you do need to take it in for them to site the engine number

If there is anything obviously wrong, you are fucked. Every now and then yo may get a hard ass who will inspect the entire vehicle, but usually its not a problem.

EGR crap is easy to get away wth. Just make sure your bus is clean and tidy, and that there are no vital fluids leaking from it, and you should be fine.
