I agree with ball and HTB grease. My boat trailer has done at least 20000km since the bearings were done. It gets towed for 3 or 4 hundred km at up to 140 kph and then dunked under water when hot and the bearings still don't need adjusting.

n00b tip. Carry a spare hub with bearings greased and fitted and put it on a stub axle to keep it all clean. If ya have a bearing failure just take the hub off the stub and fit it or if ya have a spring failure tie the axle up and U clamp the stub/hub/wheel assembly to where ever it fits so ya can get to home.

atari4x4 Freight from Melbourne to Horsham for a 39mm 60inch axle 2 f100 drums, backing plates etc was $48.40 4 sunraysia Rims and tyres freighted from Geelong was $65 Trailer components from Bigman Trailers $92 All up freight for the 5X3.6 trailer is well over $200 and I haven`t finished yet Freight for a alloy Tool box for the trailer is $92 to Horsham luckly this time I finished up with one from Repco for $157purchased locally no freight, spending Dollars never seem to end to keep the country running

Hay trailer people, does anybody know if ya can get disc brake trailer hubs with Suzuki stud patten? Parallel bearings would be good as well.

They can only do if I use a 50mm axle and very expensive bearings
So will be to heavy and around $1200 for axel and hubs

I want mechanical discs but they are unavailable for a reasonable price in 5 on5.5 stud spacing.

Sierras on 33 silverstones don't stop very well when empty, add a 500kg trailer and 100kph on gravel and ya don't stop.

You can use sierra/vit spindles, with sierra/vit solid rotors, and sierra/vit calipers.

Nope. Must be standard trailer parts as I am planing a fairly long(20000km) trip and have seen what happens to people who use non standard trailer parts.

Although I have not bought or fitted any, till money tree gets replanted,
I've decided electric brakes are best for my trailer.
Override? brakes have to be locked out for reversing, which can be a nuisance off road
Hydraulic operated brakes, tho probably better,
could be subject to more maintainence (I believe can't prove)

Discs appear better to me, and not much dearer,
but its a common to hear that drums work better, though I not sure of reasonings.

Even with a very light trailer,
I can feel it under brakes, especially down steep hills on corners.

I think you'll find that most electric brakes are drum. I've never seen electric disc brakes before.

I have cable discs on my boat trailer and they work fine. The options for discs are 10 inch hubs with ford stud patten and bearings. No f100 available in 10 inch.

F100 in 12 inch however it is a $1200 axle assembly and heavy.

F100 10inch electric drum with ford bearings. There may be parallel bearings available as well.

I can't decide on ford discs or f100 drums.

the studs get too close to the edge of the hub, so it's a no go there

I used Sierra brake drums to convert my 6 stud trailer hubs. Not what you want to do,
and I don't recommend it,
but may help you with some ideas.
Has not caused any dramas yet.

I found that available years ago, when camper was just a thought. No idea if you can, now.
