as i am running a T700, it is well protected, but does get warm due to rad and cooler rear mounted, not as much air flow in the cooler

That makes a temp guage even wiser then.

It may not be as warm as you think, but a good guage is better than guessing or worrying.

We have at least one guy in our club running rear mounted cooler with autos.
I'll let him pop in with details.
But I think he generally happy with it.

I wouldn't do this. As I understand it, the sump is where the ATF fluid ends up after it's been through the cooler. The fluid at the sump should be quite cool.
In my opinion, you really want to read the temperature of the fluid when it's at its hottest - on the way to the cooler.
That's where I've put my temp sender.

PS It doesn't make any difference where the auto cooler is so long as it's having air drawn through it by a fan. My cooler is behind the cab. Temp control is no problem. My auto rarely exceeds 90˚C

Been running 2 coolers for a while now (1 small 1 big),
ans it hasn't cooled anything any more than one big one did.
Under low speed crawl, it gets a little warmer, nothing to worry over, but a bit pointless having 2.
I suspect putting them in front of each other was a poor choice.
The little one seems to be blocking air flow to the big one with the fan.
Will go back to one again, and see how it goes.
If I think I need 2, I will find another position for it.
Will need to find another spot for any cooler, if I ever fit a winch.

Mine was found in a Berlina V6 at wreckers

It measures approx 280mm x 180mm x 40mm thick, stacked plate type.
