:helloo: plans I bought a lj80v and sj50 the sj's body just smashed but the chassis had brand new king springs and extended shackles and a drop down tank rockcrawler transfer and tonnes more. Then theirs the lj well the lj's body is in pretty good condiction put some idiot put a diesel that was a really bad fit and the springs look like they were out off a f truck. so the plan is to do a body swap sj chassis and lj body and sj engine, gearbox, transfer, diff, fueltank. So if any one has any ideas for while I'm building thanks. And il keep u guy informed while it happens

What are you wanting to do with this thing when you're done?

You might be better off keeping the LJ in one piece and pissing off the diesel.

I can just imagine what the LJ crew will say about you putting a good condition LJ body onto a Sierra chassis

it wont be complimentary, and very likely include much colourful and descriptive language.
personally, I would try and put the LJ back to how it should be.

Littlejeep is part the way into putting an LJ ute cab onto a 1L Sierra chassis. I can understand why he is doing it (his LJ81 chassis was rusty, and he wants a large tray area). However I think everything about the Sierra chassis is worse for a 4wd, and questionably better for much else..... A SWB LJ will also be significantly shorter than a SWB Sierra chassis, I think it will end up a bit of an ugly duckling unless you are awesome at panel work (stretching it).

All the Sierra springs will fit on the LJ if you prefer them. You can even make a Sierra transfer fit into the LJ with some work if you want the crawler gears. And hell, you could even fit the SIerra's engine and 5speed box to the LJ; it might sound like allot of work, but I reckon no more work than making the tub fit the chassis, and a far better end result in my book.

Littlejeep has a LJ ute cab on a SJ ute chassis, some headaches involved for sure, and that's with traybacks. Sierra has a longer wheelbase so work involved to get wheels in wheelarches etc.

chassis are 10mm different. im getting it road werthy so i can class it as a body swap. but if i keep the lj's chassis i have to class it as an engine replacement tranfer replacement axle replacement brake replacement. so its a lot less hassel just doing a body swap don't ya think :?

Putting a LJ Body on a SJ is sort of like putting a Ferrari Body on a VW Chassis

Id Put a Serria body on the the Serria chassis .... then its just a body swap.
Save the LJ . Don't Butcher it.

Nope, and nope. Just more mod codes, not more hassle.

I will have a go at most things and have just been out and had a look at both the Zooks you are talking about (in my car lot) and while I think it could be done it would be far more trouble than it's worth I feel.

Kas is talking wheelbase.

The chassis is the big let down on a Sierra over an LJ.

A Sierra (any generation, eg an SJ40 chassis has different crossmembers to a 1.3l) has all sorts of things welded to the underside of the chassis as well as that giant rock anchor/transfer case. LJs have a flat bottom with nothing to get hung up on and no venerable mechanicals. Sierra chassis are wider and use larger tube, potentially resulting in less chassis flex(this is one highway-star goes on about a bit). The spring hangers are more intrusive in a Sierra, thus easier to get hung up on. LJ ones flow fairly neatly with the chassis. Sierra chassis has some rear over hang, which the LJ doesn't, giving a worse departure angle.

There's a whole bunch of other things like LJs run narrower bumpstop spacing in the front (for more flex), have slightly longer front springs, much greater difference in roll centres (higher rear, lower front) ect.

On the plus side, a Sierra mounts the engine/gearbox lower and further back, the body mounting outriggers are better placed (not to mention the body its self is mounted 9001x better) and the chassis aren't massively rust prone like LJ ones.

Another thing that isn't the fault of the designers but certainly is a little bit of a pain, 100x50x2.5 (sierra chassis) is super easy to find, unlike 7somethingx45x2.5 (LJ) which is handy if you want to do chassis extensions and so on.
