I hope someone can help i have a whining noise coming from the gearbox i have had for differnet mechanics tell me different things
The whinning is there when the car is idleing and driving but as soon as you put you foot on the clutch it goes away, i have been told it is the bearing in the gearbox and i should just get a secondhand gearbox, i also have been told it is the thrust bearing is there a much of a differnce between the two and how can i besure which one it is

x2 and if its not that all vitara gearboxs make a whining noise dont worry bout it

If it is the thrust bearing is it worth putting in a new clutch and is it a big job i have been qouted 600 - 700 to do a thrust bearing, i was told about three hours labour

I got quoted $700 for a whole clutch kit fitted three hours labour is about right

How bad is the noise? my last vitaras thrust bearing was making noises when i got it and after 30 000 kms it didnt get any louder not too sure if it can cause any damage but

it comes and goes can be there for a while changing up and down through the gears and when in top gear and idleing it goes away when you put youer foot on the clutch pedal but sometimes it will go away the less i change gears and if i'm on the road for a while it wont be there

input bearing, pretty common.

Unless you cant hear the stereo over it dont worry, any other box you get will be jsut as bad

I wouldnt worry too much about it and just wait till ya need a new clutch for $600-$700 bucks you could get a good set of muddies or spend it on other shit for ya car or just buy heaps of beer

My gearbaox was a lttle noisy when i got it . Put some Nulon stuff in it and it improved alot. The results weren't instant so don't expect that.

happy to try anything, is it a normal for a vit box to do this also anything under 1500rpm in first or reverse the car shutters is it normal rev a vit a little harder to change gears because to seems to take off in first and reverse around 1800-2000 rpm

bit steep i rekon, part would only be like 220... so 480 labour, i dunno if i have seen anyone charge 160 an hour labour, 100 would be normal labour but still heaps, so charging you about 400 for a clutch kit...

& transfer oil. Flywheel machine. Spigot isn't in the kit, enviro charge's, ink for the printer, coffee, condom's.

It all add's up

20 for oil
25 for rear main
5 for spigot
I can do mine in 3 hours now so thats about right

I when and got a price for a clutch kit a standard one arond $150 or around $270 for a heavy duty kit, i have been told there not that hard to fit is that true

Only things I have ever paid to have done on my car is a wheel alignment and they still stuff it up and I have to fix it rest I have done

3 times in total, once to fit the HD clutch, once to remove it and have it all checked by somebody else at a workshop with Daikin, I still removed and refit it, and once to fit a standard Daikin clutch, which has been excellent.

As a side, I am starting to get a theory on late vits and clutches thanks to Sam, jsut got to make some time to have a good look at it all
