hi have a 87 stock sierra [tinny] she jumps out of low range every now and again only used on farm always driven in low range.pulled cover off swear curse jam rattle crunch and were back on the road my 12year old son drives most off the time has trouble getting back in

check your transfer case mounts. one of them might be broken and the transfer case moves under load, causing the shifter to hit on the tunnel knocking it out of gear.

That bush is called a 'sheet', available from Suzuki spare parts.

It's a pretty common problem that all sierra owners have sooner or later.
Go through the possible causes above and you'll get yourself out of trouble for sure.

I'd look at 3 causes in this order:
- Broken transfer mount rubbers, especially drivers side front.
- Check drivers side mount (plate) is straight and not bent, causing misalignment of the transfer case.

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be the cause of the original poster's problem but for the sake of being thorough...

...this can also be cause by lack of clearance of the shift lever vs. tunnel after putting in a body lift. In a previous vehicle I experienced this, the transfer shifted fine and there was clearance to the tunnel but the rubber boot was putting pressure on the stick. In an offroad situation the transfer case moving around under torque would be enough to knock the stick from where it was supposed to be. You may have to bend the stick and/or enlarge the hole in the tunnel to rectify the problem.
