so discussion here closed Do the 1.6 vit motor with the twin cam (GTI head) thats what im going to do when i get some cash Not a great motor setup for an offroad driven sierra. They are way to peaky despite the 1.6 block, and require aftermarket engine management to get any kind of reliable result. Oh, and the 1.3GTI head actually flows less than the 1.6 SOHC head. Buzooka, I think you are on the right track there mate. Just keep it simple and you will enjoy it far more. Peter
I do know that the vit head flows better then the gti one, but there has to be some kinda advantage being a twin cam, no ??
Whats the most power anyones got out of the 1.3 sierra motor ?? Cause thats what its all about in the end, and if you can gain some good power out of the 1.3 well yeah yous are right
But efi is still better

Hi atari4x4
I believe that Suzuki rates a J20A at 94KW, but even if it was 97KW after 13 years of use I am sure it has lost quite a few the KW's it was first released with, certainly not close to 100KW as you optimistically stated.
I don't think he can legally go 2 litres and I don't think anyone has fitted the latest 2009/2010 122KW 2.4 litre GV engine to a Sierra yet.
Yeah I am a realist no apologies. 2storker, serious question time... how many KW would a well looked after 13 year old motor would lose, i have replaced the cat & muffler with a hi flow cat & muffler? i know redbook isn't always 100% correct but thats what i used to get the 97kw... http://www.redbook.com.au/used-cars/det ... 6062C694A3
Yeah point taken, I just read over the posts again, you did actually say "nearly 100KW" I had a list that rated them at 94KW so I thought there may have been a 100KW import or something that I didn't know about, which sparked my interest.
As for how many KW it would loose, not too sure but I know that I used to have my 1200 Suzuki Bandit dyno tuned and after 3 years and just over 20,000 km it had droped a couple of horse power from when I got it new.
It was serviced every 5000km and looked after.

thats interesting, mines just cracked 132,000kms & serviced every 5000km one day i would like to get it on a dyno but with big tyres & diff gears i really wonder what it would put out.
the new SX4 comes out with an updated J20a with around 107kw, i wonder what they've done to get another 10kw!

got a quote for a company down here to rebuild the motor for me and it was close to the same price for a 1.6 vitata motor so looks i might be rebuilding it my self (with help from family) as it will work out alot cheaper instead of paying for some other guy to play with it

I rebuilt a 1.3 for $400 in parts and $300 for a complete head rebuild. As long as your block and pistons are still servicable, there is no reason why you cannot rebuild yours for under $1k including new water pump, fuel pump, belts, seals etc.

the other 'big' difference is in the crank. the mpi motor is fully counterweighted. also, royce mentioned there are 16 valve carby motors from a swift. yes from an import point of view, but the majority of ausie spec ones were tbi systems. i'd never really waiste my time with a carby 1.6 unless i got absolutely dirt cheap.
