I was talking to this guy that told me the mould and oil are better for the short wheel based cars because the ride isnt as hard. He also heavly recomonded the tough dog, or EF's kit, but from the stuff that was said about a lifting on a previous thread I thought old man emu (OME) was the way to go.

whats does everyone recomend??

Also whats a resonable price to pay for a kit?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

the whole gas vs oil thing is a load of crap

people that say that dunno how a shock works, all the gas does is pressurise the oil so it cant foam up on rough roads and make the shock go soggy

OME struts have the runs on the board, some say tough dog are good but some say they are stiff

rears there are millions of options, the OME work well or you can go with longer from rancho or out of some car

Westie has kings springs and thinks they are ok, I think they are cheaper than OME's

I dunno about all the efs's and all that, you dont seem to see much of em in real tourers and thats what hammers the stuff

Ive got Raised Kings 30mm all round with spring spacers from Bruce which gives me a total lift of about 60mm and then got OME front struts and OME rear shocks for extra down travel. I rekon its all good and not too expencive if you install it all your self... Its not hard..

I'd say best bang for your buck its the KING SPRINGS $310 a full set.. + OME's about $400 a set + spring spacers $100 a set + you'll need camber bolts for the front wheels to get them back to neg camber.... You can then fit 30" tyres under your vit for some more hight... I think its about 120mm higher than the standard vit.

See my website / home page for some pics of it all..

why does it matter which springworks make them? they are of totally different design, OME are 5 x5mm leafs, kings are 4x8mm, OME have miltary wrap and the little slipper things too

and yes Tenneco, Monroes parent company, are the largest shock manufacturer in the world if you go to the monroe website it even has a link to the Rancho website cause they make them too

I am pretty certain you are wrong on both counts though as I have spoken to Mark King many a time about making custom springs up and he is dead against the OME leaf design and most Tenneco shocks will have Tenneco stamped on them

Hey sounds like you got it sussed, does having spacers effect anything, eg length of travel? Is it the only way to get more than about 30mm lift from suspension? Does anyone make springs big enough? What's the camber stuff you were talking about?
I'm just about to get a suspension lift of around about 2in. so any help would be great.
Thanks.

spacers do effect travel to an extent, you are effectivley raising the spring rate so you need more weight to make use of the extra uptravel you now have and the wheel only travels down to the same point due to shock length

So a stiffer spring like King Springs wouldn't be too good? And what do you mean by 'the wheel only travels down to the same point...'?
Thanks heaps.

So if you got 40mm lift in the springs, 20mm spaces... But bought Shocks for an 80mm lift would that give you wicked down travel? or just a death trap?
