hi all
i have a 1990 wt sierra and have been getting a knocking noise whenever i turn the steering wheel. i notice the most when i am going slow everything under the car looks fine but i have no idea what the problem is. i can also feel it when i am driving.the steering box has quite a bit of play in it not sure if it is coming from that. any idea guys any help will be appreiated

maybe CV joints but just guessing

Jack both the front wheels up and get someone to turn the steering left to right and back..

Stick your head under bonnet and check for noises coming out of the steering box or the uni joint in the steering shaft under the brake booster.

got any details on the car, tyres sizes. i know i get a knocking noise ive put it down to the spring moving slightly, body creeking ect

i haven't tried that yet want 33s so i will do that tomorrow and let you guys know. i am running 31 inch tyres 2 inch sus lift and 2 inch body and climax shackles

steering rag joint and or spring/shackle bushings.

am going with front wheel bearings and or kingpins..while you got the front in the air see if there is any movement in the wheels by shaking it from the top and bottom of the wheel..

Also check your shock mounts..top and bottom... a loose shock will knock like a door to door salesman...

I'm picking spring movement. If you don't get any noise with the front wheels off the ground, stick it back on it's wheels and try again.

well i tried it with the wheels off the ground i didnt hear any noises and everything looked fine. no movement in little uni the biscuit is fine. i will have to wait til the misses is home to test it on the ground

try it wheels down and standing still, if its the springs you can pick the noise and having a bit of a ring to it

ok i have tried all of your tips still nothing. i changed from my drop shackles to some of fatzooks extended shackles and that has seem to of fixed it. the rubber bushes on the drop shackles where a bit flogged out so it must of been that. now i have another problem. when i go to full lock turning right the back of the inner right wheel hits the spring but going left the left wheel misses by about 50mm. i will check that the rims are the same offset tomorrow (i am sure they are). the tyres are the same size. what do you guys think the problem is?

my swb used to do that as well. i fixed it by removing the diffs.
there is a thread here where it was discussed but i don't think there was a solution found.

i have the same sort of thing happening to mine now, when i do about 50 i get a real bad wobble and the front wheels shake life crazy its got a new steering box 5k klms ago but it does have some play in the steering.
