Hey guys, I recently replaced the rear housing on my gearbox and in my haste didnt really pay too much attention to what the inside looked like Anyway I swapped over all the parts that the new case didnt have including the bolt on the side in the pic below. Now when I go to select reverse however the flap for the reverse wont lift up/ rotate at all meaning no reverse gear. I have worked out that the problem is that bolt, if it is only half way in ( like in the pic ) or completely out it is fine.

Now my question what is the bolt for ? Can I cut it in half and use it to plug the hole or does it need to be in there ?

Are you sure there is supposed to be a bolt in there?
Where is your reverse switch - that controls the revesing lights?

A reverse light switch would make sense but they are bigger and on the front half of the case

And sorry its a 5speed Sierra box.

just checked mine,I have the bolt too?maybe its the wrong bolt?

That bolt is definately supposed to be there..
It is part number 09135-08006 (M8X20mm) and it is the reverse shift rod locator.
To fit it you may have to jiggle the shaft in and out of reverse and/or rotate it.

There is 2 or 3 black plugs ( about the size of 'C" batteries ) on the top half of the front part of the case with wires that go up into the engine bay it will be one of these.

Can some one tell me, using a screw driver I can move the reverse rod forward into reverse but I can also move it backwards past neutral. Is that what this bolt is ment to prevent so when you are taking it out of reverse the rod doesnt go past the neutral point in the box ?

I have the bolt 99% of the way in but when I tighten it up it jams the rod up

That's right.. It's so you don't engage reverse and 5th at the same time.
That bolt should have a washer on it.... Does yours?
If not... Fit a washer and it should be good.

ok i know what it is.. i had this issue when i was playing with my box the other day..

there is a little coller on the rev/5th linkage, (see pic)

it can flip over and make it impossible to get gears with the bolt in..

take bolt out, flip over, put bolt back in!

i can get a pic of box without extension housing to show u if you would like

Yer I worked out the bolt was hitting on that collar, a pic would be great if you can

Cheers mate helped heaps.

It turns out the bolt is too long for the box for some reason When ever I tightened it it would push the rod across into the 3rd/4th rod, however it is on there now with an extra washer and just over finger tight and I have all 6 gears working again. Thanks everyone
