am i correct in assuming that i can run my gti head on a vit bottom end???

just thinking as i want to build a new motor soon.... a bit more power never hurt! and i dont want to go the whole vit motor as it is wired for gti etc...

I expect it would, to a degree, however how the GTI ECU would go with the extra capacity I'm not sure...

It may underfuel and run lean, and I'm not sure what it would be like in terms of compression compared to the GTI setup...

I'm sure someone here will have a better idea though...

It's the engine I have in my current zook.
Piss poor really. Not worth the effort.
My last zook had a standard G16b in a swb, it was awesome by comparison.

Now I have g16b + mk1 gti head. aftermarket ecu, extractors, 2" exhaust, enlarged mk3 inlet manifold, 60mm throttle body, sr20 CAS with twin coils running sequential ignition, with a solid fuel system.

Would be a decent engine in a swift, but the combo is total unsuited to offroad work.
The power output is barely above a g16b if you compare dyno results, but the G16b has a better torque curve. I've seen rebuilt g13a engines that make more at the wheels than I do, and my car has had ~30 hours dyno time.

The GTI head doesn't flow sufficient air to make decent power without going to the effort (and expense) of head work. Porting, cam and valve job at a minimum.
Mk2/3 are slightly better in this regard, but still much less flow in standard form than a stock 16v sohc head.

I made decent power when I had the sc14 fitted, but then reliability comes into question.

It usually seems to fall on deaf ears when I offer advice on this topic.
So much of the information on redline/teamswift are from people who have not used the combo, or who go all out with headwork when they build it.
The stock head/block runs, but is not a performance upgrade. It's just an uneccesary complication of an otherwise proven package.
If you're sticking to a suzuki G series engine, go with the standard G16b.

If you follow any build that uses this engine long term, they generally die from underfueling at higher revs.
On top of this, they overfuel on decel and low load, causing worse fuel economy.

- Less fuel economy, no more power, less reliability and a hand grenade waiting to go off. Sounds like a winner to me!

I use a right angle adaptor on mine as it's a SA (mk1).
mk2/3 can use a '86-'89 mazda 323 GT 1.6l Turbo dizzy cap and rotor.
Don't stress about the part number as it isn't standard between manufacturers (several aftermarket suppliers make caps for this vehicle).
Ask for it by model.

Get it from Repco or similar.

i did a lot of reading into this and talked to a few that had it and they all say the same thing not worth the hassel and will never run right. They all say stick to the single cam head.

Maybe you should go re-read the last few weeks of your build thread, cos overheating, leaky sumps and fucked big-ends doesn't sound that durable to me...

my mate did this conversion in his hard top it runs great with an after market ecu but not much more power than the 1.6 but one thing it does have is an awsome sound compared to to the 1.6 it sounds amazing but probly not worth the trouble unless u do alotof other things like cams and ajustable cam gears because the timing isnt quite perfect with the belt the fits it would be kool if u want a different engine for no other reason than u wanna be different

Spend a few grand on conversion, aftermarket ecu and tuning for a cool sound and for something different.

You're right about the timing being slightly off. If set to the factory timing marks it will be retarded.
