So half way through installing my 2.5" lift and WT diffs, i realised the front lines weren't even close to being long enough

Walked over to my wrecked Accord, ripped the front lines off.. They're 6" longer than the Zook's with the same connections on both ends

The lines are the same on 90 through 93 models.. Just a heads up they work a treat.. Shouldn't be hard to find at a wreckers

Also, no hating on my Honda brake lines :D

Sorry for another post, but i'd like to add that most older model Honda brake lines are compatable with Sierra ones (Not sure about Vits, sorry guys)

You do have to file a few mm out of one side of the brake line bracket, but that's easy

What's dodgy about it??? The fittings are the same, filing a bit to get the fitting in the bracket would be ok also. It's just a cheap way to fix a common problem, utilizing a common part. Good work mate, some people will appriciate the heads up.

I would NEVER recommend ANYONE buy used brake lines from a wrecker.
If you or your car aren't worth $50 for new lines then you have bigger problems.

However, JCCK has added a bit of tech to the forum by telling us that 90-93 Honda brake flexi hoses are longer than Sierra and will fit. They are probably cheaper to buy NEW than getting extended lines made up.

New custom brakelines are dirt cheap and new factory brakelines are even cheaper. Even ADR approved braided aren't very dear.

Wreckers aren't supposed to sell brakelines off of wrecks- I've walked out of wreckers with brakelines cut in 1/2 because they wouldn't sell me a second hand line (I wanted the line to match the fittings)

How is the pedal feel with that much extension matey? Nice find by the way! Also I'm not sure wreckers are permitted to sell second hand brake lines? Could be wrong.

Edit: Gwagensteve beat me to the wrecker comment!

That was my point. 2nd hand = fail. If he bought new, it wouldn't be fail. It would be Great Success!

But we can't do any 'Hating' anyway because master of bodge said so. = Fail again.

how is removing known 25 year old shit off and putting known 20 year old shit on a fail? its a hose FFS its pretty damn obvious if there is a fault with it or not

anyways its a moot point, these hoses arent available new anymore just like most cars more than 6 weeks old cause its easier to just have em made on teh spot to match the old one

This 20yr old hose will have cracks in the outer rubber from age. Yes, this will be obvious to see. But people will still ignore this as sign of age and wear. Its worse than using a second hand heater hose off another car. At least the hose can blow and drive to a safe position to stop. Try doing that with a brakeline.

If they were nearly new. Ok good. But accords are not the type of car to get new lines.

I know you would use a drinking straw shep. But thats the way you do it living on an island. Bush mechanics..

If they were cheap and readily avaliable new near you in suburbia, What would you do? Use a straw, or proper line?

people assume too much and then flame away. the photo that i posted is
what i had to do to keep my car mobile after a near new braided line burst.

why wouldn't an accord get new lines? they are a expensive car.

i think they start at 40k, hell the piece of crap civic my sis has cost 35k

Of course a new car gets new lines.

However, how many 90's accords do you see with new lines at a wreckers or onroad? You won't find many.

how many people here still have the original lines on their cars? my vit does, theres nothing wrong with em and is unlikely to ever be before the rest of the car wears out.

youve got as much chance of the lines already fitted being as bad or worse as what you are putting on, likewise the custome made ones you fit that were made by the work experiance kid could well blow and you would never know, how many people here have cleaned oil off a brake show or replaced a set of shoes without replacing the cylinders, thats worse from a failure point of view

Holy replies batman!

Ok~
Wasn't aware you can't buy second hand lines sorry :D
But as said, new lines are cheap anyway.. Possibly cheaper than extended custom lines

The pedal is actually very good, but it took AGES to bleed the entire system of air

I went over the lines, no cracks or signs of age.. Just a bit of dirt :D
So far the Accord has given me well over $1000 worth of parts into both my other 91 Accord and my Zook, all in good nick.. Money well saved imo
I think you're just hating because it's a Honda

For everyone who appreciates the info on these lines, thanks guys.. Happy to help

why have wreckers asked that hoses arent cut when removing calipers, why have I been asked if I wanted the hoses as well when buying calipers?

It could just be a liability thing for some wreckers
They won't sell you 2nd hand hoses/lines because if they fail and you hurt/kill yourself.. They're gonna be in a heap of shit for it

Whereas they can totally avoid that issue by not selling parts that easily become unsafe

I think it would just depend where you went as to what the rules are

Guess you'd have to ask them man, i'm not entirely sure what second hand goods can be resold safely

I think the idea with the hoses/lines though is that they can be cracking on the inside, but still look alright from the outside.. Meaning an unsafe product is deemed safe, and sold

Whereas with a flywheel, belt, pully, harmonic ballancer, engine mount or so.. You can visibly see that the item is on the way out.. And throw it in the trash
