for a while now i have had wandering issues with my sierra's steering and now its off the road, im going to fix a few issues

the joint from the pitman arm to the drag-rod is fu*ked so sloppy and loose. Now I have undone the top nut and removed the split pin and the prick wont come out. says in my manual i need a two-jaw puller to remove the joint.

now my other problem is do i have to remove the whole drag rod and what eva and have new joint put in " do they need to be pressed or anything" or is it simple push out and put in new one. also where do i get new joint from.

Don't the new ball ends just screw in?

sorry i think your thinking of the tie-rod end that screws in, the drag rod connects off of that and goes up to the pitman arm which is connected to the steering gear/ box around where the steering damper is.

i can see i need to press the bolt comming up through the pitman arm but then what do i do to replace the stuffed bushing/joint ???????????????????????

yea the pitman arm joint to the drag-rod if flogged alright.

i need to get these jaw-puller things cause i cant pull the drag-rod off the knuckles to get to the joint/bolts to replace them

Sounds like you need a new pitman arm then, I think it is just a tapered hole, don't think there is a bush in there.

yep i'll be around till the 26th of this month till i start my auto mechanics tafe course lol. oh oh oh on that note i wont be round 2moro untill about 11am have to look for some work placement for my tafe need a mechanis business too take me on for 1-2 days a week have to build up 200hrs during my course so come on any places out there lol.

take out the split pin and loosen the nut but leave it on a few turns hit the side of the pit arm right where the bolt goes through might take a few goes but it should drop out because it is tapered. just did it to my car the other day.

ive wd-40'd it all, and i will keep on the slight taps to see if it comes off will let ya know how it pans out.

I'm pretty sure the ball joint is integral into the drag link - they certainly don't unscrew.

maybe you can "upgrade" - a few places make crmo replacement steering linkages, then its just a case of unbolting the lot and throwing on the new one.

Don't forget if you touch the tie-rod you're going to throw out the wheel alignment.

all good im not touching the tie-rod im touching the drag-rod its the first bar after the steering box.

wants 33's has upgraded his by welding a steel sleeve around it i have seen in his pics. im keen to do that whiles its off " well when i get it off still cant get it off its held on there good it just wont slide off over the bolts, and yes i have undone the split pin and nut lol "

i remember when we took mine off years ago it needed some heat (oxy) and a hammer... don't forget its been in there for around 20 years =) its happy to stay put... lol

you will either need to hit it hard and itl come out. or use a puller! may as well buy one now ul use it heaps as a mechanic
