But what do you intend to use it for? Offroad? touring? Highway driving?

I have a 01 2.5 V6 in manual. Got it at 65k about 2 years ago and now its got 120k.

Main thing to look out for is the timing chain rattle - do a search and theres plenty of info about this. Basically it makes a rattling noise at cold start up. If it has been looked after it'll still make the same noise but only for a second or two. Any longer than that you'll need to be careful.

Other than that, beside for normal wear and tear I haven't had any problems.

decent AT or MT tyres that are slightly larger & a suspension lift will take you most places within reason, it really depends on how far you want to venture off road, there are a few nice GV builds in the members section.

EDIT: there was a problem with the early ones poping out of 4wd hi-range have a search on here for a thread started gravity_powered, not sure of the year that suzuki fixed it but there is a fair bit of info floating around on the subject

I just bought a 2001 2.5 V6 a few months ago, i have taken it offroad stock on gravel and rocky tracks with deep ruts, and it did surprisingly well, but i am just about to get a Suspension lift kit put on from Ironman, and trying to get some decent AT's and Rims, the GV has a bit of a narrow rear wheel arch, 30inches or 761mm, so you have to be a bit carefull when selecting AT's that the tyre outside diameter fits in, i have found that generally, the 225/70R16 will fit the best... have a read of my rig thread, link is below...

The series two GV is the one to look for, as most of the previous series problems, were fixed in the series two, you can tell the series two GV, by the chrome strip just above the front grill, and in front of the bonnet...

They are a great Zook, goes very well onroad, its a very comfy road tourer, and with a few mods, will become even better offroad, it wont be as capable as a Sierra or a Vitara, unless you do some extreme mods, but they will handle most of what you throw at it, and the GV still has that well known Zook sand floating ability, the GV is still lighter than most big 4WD's, about 1400kgs... have fun with your GV, i know i will when the mods are done !

Tyres would be a first. tougher 4wd tracks and a 2" lift will be better. I use mine as a daily driver and offroad every few weekends for day/weekend trips etc. Makes a great tourer and very capable off road with just these mods. Also agree with MacBear - i believe the second series GV's started in 01, August i think.

Fuel consumption isn't fantastic for the size of the car. 10.5l/100km is about the best I've got driving like Betty White, 12l/100km is average.

Really good in the bush actually! I've never been close to getting stuck. Having said that though i do mainly touring. Around the vic high country i have attempted several 'double black diamond' tracks (rated as extremely difficult) in dry conditions, and never had any worries!

i have the ironman 2inch lift and 225/75 BFG AT tyres - thats it as far as mods go Does the job well and still drives nice on road.

Why do you need Valve saver/Lead replacement/Upper Cylinder Lubricant? I don't recall any cases of the valves wearing out, unless you're on LPG.

I think you also run 95/98 fuel don't you? The higher spec fuel is cleaner and has those additives in it anyways.

Yes i do also only use Premium Unleaded 95, it may have those additives, but i dont think they would be in any significant quantities... i like to look after my Zook, and if a $1.50 bit of a $18 dollar bottle of extra additive protection in my Zook every once in a while, helps extend its engine life, and make it run better, then, sure i will spend that money to do it !

I totaly agree with you Mr Bear, if you spend a dollar on prevention it saves you ten on repairs...
And my answer to the original question in this post is YES ,my 2000 2.5 v6 GV is one of the best cars i have ever owned ,it will be sad to see it go , but the new ones are even better (for what i want it for) thow a little thirsty..

thankyou ppl i got the grand vitara limited sports 01 2.5 v6 so far so good but shit it drinks petrol like its free and suzi dealer said its spot on. 16ltper 100km maybe some1 with a brain can help me out.

mine does about 17l/100km's around town, 12l/100km's on the highway, i've put it down to being an auto.

i recently towed a camper trailer (1122 atm) and still averages 17l on the highway sitting on 110km/hr so i'm happy bout that. better than a cruiser.
