hi all,

just wondering what effect removing the front swaybar would have on a sierra, i know in landcruiser's it turns it into a real mission to drive, but what about with these little sierras?

Makes a bit of difference if pushed hard around roundabouts etc but hardly anything to normal onroad driving. If you're driving normally you probably won't notice it.

I've pulled the front swaybar off a 98 Holden Rodeo, a 2000 Suzuki GV and my current 88 Sierra, and haven't really noticed the difference on any of them...

Then again, I'm not a crazy driver that likes to take corners at 120kph...

I do, But i don't run any swaybars.

And alot of sierra's can't even do 120kph

We just pulled the sway bar off our 94 (SJ70) and it has made little difference to the Handling, but made a big difference to the wheel exstension. Great for off road.

somehing must be wrong then.. I can sit on 120 all day.. And still accelerate ( if you want to call it that) it's a little slow to accelerate from there but can still go faster

Seriously, I do not want to even think about that sort of speed in a short wheel base suzi, I would be shit scared, speed for me is a designed fast car, not a designed serious off roader.

Even if my suzi could go fast, 80-90 is fast enuf. Big wheels, big lift, no sway bar, naa fuk speed in that.

Alot of people run no swaybar. Handling onroad is slightly changed. Slightly as in poofteenth of a bees dick.

my old 1.3L engine with nothing but some exhaust work and 215/75r15's got me to 160km/hr (well, where it would be on the speedo if it was there) once... i even got the speeding fine to prove it!

That aside - i wasnt running a swaybar in mine either, understeered a bit more on sharp bends but nothing too drastic changed.

mine got the death wobbles the other day in the wet and the front was understeering into a corner at 120km/h. stupid i know, it was on a down hill run and i was at that speed wfore i knew it, scared me alot

Yeah, i pulled my sway bar out about a month ago.
Nothin changed at all, but i figured the hard-as-fuck springs were to blame.
Slightly more ?articulation? in ruts, but the shockers fully extend at about normal ride height anyway..

fuck that. best ive ever done in mine is 120km/h downhill... mind you, 225,000km no rebuild, all stock under the hood, and thicker oil than most (seems to run smoother & quieter)

ahhh cmon you havent lived (or risked death?) unless you've taken a sierra off its speedo, just imagine: rocketing across the ground in a tin can with the aerodynamics of a loaf of bread and handling of a billy cart all the while being deafened by the howl of tyres, screaming engine and wailing gearbox =)
