hey all i know i have another thread from a few weeks ago about my locrite/wrong and cromos.
im out in the shed fitting it now and am wondering if i have done it wrong?with the new axles just sitting in there and me spinning it by hand it appears they cant unlock from each other.
i have the 1530 with couplers.i installed the thrust washer from the standard side gears and then also between each half i installed the spacer ring(tube) supplied with the locker.I am wondring if it is packed out too far and cant disengage or if i need wheels etc on it and then try with more leverage of course as its a fair ask by hand?

Drop a wheel on the ground and try again, and make sure you put a wheel on the hub you are tryimg to spin for more leverage. Then give it a good yank!

i have it only as the centre on the ground so far,all assembled back up so from the way you have said that it will neer work no matter how hard i yank which is sort of what i was thinking,then a mate confirmed
too late for this i thnk,try another day.

agreed. it should be fairly solid to unlock if that makes sense, the act of the bitumen gripping and turning both sides at different speeds is what unlocks it, more of an auto unlocker if anything.

Exactly. I'd be very surprised if you could get it to unlock as only a center on the ground. As long as you followed the instructions, you'll be right. Just whack it all back together, there's really not much to them so I'm sure you'll be fine.

yeah tru,cheers.locker took about 5 minutes to put together if i have it right ,everything else is the slow bit,new wheel bearings etc,packin everything.
Ah well ill try put it in as is over the weekend and see how it goes.still trying to make sense of the squared coupler setup over the tapered style with original side gears.i guess im not a superhero and cant unlock it myself i didnt know what to expect to be honest

mine will spin backwards by hand with one person on each wheel fairly easily. i took standard washers out and just used the bigger ones supplied with locker. i didnt get new couplers tho, just used old gears

I've got lockright's front and rear and they do the job. I don't mind the clunking they make (although mine run the standard side gears), it's the slop in them that I hate. You can have your backlash set perfectly and still have quite a bit of play, it's just the design of the beast. Where the pins locate through the two dog clutches is where the play is - translates to a fair thud in the driveline. You get used to it after a while, but it can still be a pain in the rectum.

my locker goes ...thrust washer,than coupler,than locrite driver with springs and pins,then spacer tube inside it,pin through carrier,driver again with springs and pins and spacer tube,then coupler,thrust washer.closed all back up so fingers crossed its right as im about to go seal it in the housing and pack my cromos

To check it you can put 1 wheel on the ground with the other jacked up, turn the pinion flange by hand (it won't spin, just loads up) the other wheel should spin easily by hand with a light clicking noise in the same direction as the one on the ground is trying to spin( but not the other way). If it does this on both sides in both directions it's all good.

It wont fit as in it hits something solid or it gets to a point and then stiffens up or binds as if it is going in on the piss. That sounded wrong but you get the idea.

Is the centre bolted in completely ? The CV isnt hitting on the ball ? Did you grease the pins up when you put them in, to hold them in place during assembly ? When I sold one to Brodie and he was having problems fitting it, it turned out one of the pins on the inside had fallen out and was putting one of the drivers on the piss, so when you tried to put the axle in it would get to a point then bind.

na just turns out im a crackhead measured it up side to side with the long axle hanging out,measured up to be reasonably straight if not spot on so i kept trying,all of a sudden worked,dunno what i done different but yeah it all is in so i got everything back together enough that ill add oil in the morning,fit tyres and see if it works.

took it for a quick drive on the weekend up a grassy hill.still dont know if its working properly yet allthough it did seem to climb it easy and slow.steering didnt feel much different with power steer allthough can feel slight resistance through the steering i guess.doing 3 cyls method it works right,binds up when spinning tailshaft.wheel off ground can spin when spinning it at the wheel but makes the clicky click sounds etc both sides both ways.havent really heard it make a bang so far driving and ave no where close to here to really make it spin n need front locker with back allready being locked

im sure steering will be heavier in different situations but so far in the grass if thats as bad as it gets the power steer is awesome

It'll be a new car. The real test for the steering will be when you have the front hubs locked in on sand/soft stuff whilst trying to make a really tight turn. The fronts will want to just pull you forward, instead of around. But you'll still love it and it will go anywhere. Mine's a mountain goat with the front locked in and the treps howlin'.
