Im about to do a swap with a AW4 in to a LWB

The question i ask is how has anyone done the rear of the AW4 with a bearing and shaft/adapter?

Without ordering one of these?
http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=53
or
http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=53

Im pretty sure joe blow has done it and maybe Gutless?

Anyone know of an aussie kit? Or just a bearing part number, etc?

Cheers.

I used the trail tough adapter. You absolutely need it. The amount of play that is in the shaft without the transfer case supporting it is incredable!!

correct me if i'm wrong but the tt sleeve is just a bushing?....no bearing? i'd be inclined to use a bearing. you won't need to cut and weld the tunel, thats the very hard way of doing it. if you are good with a hammer it can be streched out to look like factory, but be impatient and it will look like crap. and we are only talking about 10-15mm each side of the tunel, not a lot.

if this is going into a maruti you can use the original cross member and fab up a new mount to run off it, if its a 1.3 it will have to be chopped. i have done a few of them that run a bearing, in a machined bearing housing bolted to a mounting plate that pics up 4 of the outer m8 holes, you don't need a full cover. my seal runs in the box and before my bearing housing so a full cover on the back is not needed. remember....maruti cross member can stay.

i can do a kit but realise mine has more components than the tt and is a little more expensive.

so refering back to Stekkys question above, does the manual 5 speed need this adapter to run without the transfer case, and if so can you use the auto one from lowrange?

No Idea!

Im kinda thinking if your going down the track of a Vit gearbox you would only use an Auto and not bother with the Manual.

In that case there is a lot of Manual J20a Vits and GV go through the pickles and manheim folwes damaged auctions.

Bugger all Autos tho, took me 2 years to find a good one with all the bits for the conversion that had not been killed in the crash!!

Maybe we should start another thread, but from the one's I've had apart thay look to be supported enough for just a jack shaft, but testing that theory would/could ruin a box..

They have a bearing at the end of the main shaft, so they are fine. The auto doesn't have this, hence the need to support the jack shaft.
