i had a heap of mud in my tank, it clogged up the fool filter and the car was running like crap.

I took the tank out and cleaned it out and looks clean now.
I put a new fool filter on.
I blew the lines out with an air gun.
I removed the fool line from the carby and cranked the engine over so the petrol was pumping out the line.
I removed the drain bung thing in the carby and emptied it.
I sprayed carby cleaner everywhere in the carby.

It now runs a lot better, but it's a bit inconsistant at idle. The revs go up and down slightly.

any ideas? It may still have crap in the carby i guess.

i bought a $8 one for Suzukis, instead of the $2 generic ones, and it's perfectly clear, so you can see inside, bling eh!

I'll attack it again today.

Could the Coil/spark plug leads/spark plugs effect the idle like that also?

It's the same as when you have a weirdo vacuum issue with the carby.
It just goes up and down a little.

they could make it rough but if they were ok before I dont think it would be the prob

might be a dodgy vacuum hose somewhere that got bumped too, spray some crc or carb cleaner around the intake while idling and if it changes theres your leak

i sprayed carby cleaner everywhere and blew it out again. It was still a little rough so changed the leads and after being electricuted a few times it seemed to be ok. So not exactly sure what the problem was or if it's definatley fixed, will find out this weekend

When mines not runnin right i take the air cleaner off the top of the carby then give it some revs ands stick your hand over the top of the carby and that cleans out all your jets!

Works every time the mechanic over the road showed me and has got me out of the sh!T on more then 1 occasion!

after heaps of trouble on the weekend with crap in the carby i've learnt how to pull it all apart and clean the idle jet, it kept becoming clogged so had to keep cleaning it, it was getting better by the end of the weekend.

You need to pull the float bowl right off and clean it out. Then pull the other jets out and the emulsion tube too. Probably plenty of crap floating around still.

So do you run a second filter between the fuel pump and carb? Also check the state of your carb gaskets. These deteriorate and clog the idle jet and the emulsion tube fairly quickly. If you do go for a rebuild kit check the quality of the gaskets as well ie check that there isnt any fibers hanging out everywhere, or just make some outta the ole cornflakes box .

I did take a spare fool filter with me, so we stuck in betweem the fool pump and carby, it stayed pretty clean throughout the weekends driving.

We did make another gasket out of thin cardboard and gasket glue goop stuff. We sprayed a fair bit of carby cleaner throughout the carby so i am assuming that it's still stuff in the carby that is loosening up and blocking the idle jet because that was the only issue by the end of the weekend.

I'll give it a few runs and cleans over the next few weeks anyway.

Today i pulled the carby apart and cleaned it all out, but while i was doing that i found another carby in the shed and pulled it apart and removed all the bits that attach to the outside, then whacked it on and it ran awesome, had down to 500 rpm and was running very nicely.

yeah there's no choke now, and no idle up with headlights switch, although royce reckons i should stick one on and have an in cab switch for idle up.

seem to run pretty good. I haven't actually driven it anywhere yet though.

I will take my old complete carby out with me as a back i think

do you know what crbie it is? 4k rolla ones are apperently pretty good.. yet to try.. but got one in case..

Had the problem of mine not idling or running right.. so a can of carbie cleaner, air filter off, sprayed the fuck out of atll the little jets and pipe lines, bit of a rev here and there, then installed a fuel filter after the pump but before the carb. and havnt had an issue since.. Rekcon this is a HUGE cause of peoples carb dramas..

gees that looks very similar to a sierra 1.3 carby.

I just used the standard 1.3 carby.
