there is a small round black canister in the engine bay on the drivers side, got a hose going into the top and one out the bottom, any idea what this is and is it needed to be kept or can i chuck it?

Sounds like the carbon canister/ charcoal canister.

Its an emissions thing. It collect fuel vapours from the tank aparently :roll:

charcoal canister. its the breathing system for the tank. you can get rid of it but atleast put a filter on the end.

ok cool, thank you, i thought it was a charcoal canister, just dont like taking bits off without knowing for sure.

Yep, but the jim's have a lil canister for the vacuum c*#ts, I mean hub's that lives on the driver's side inner guard..

Are they in the same place for the BB engines AND M's?

I know that certain components in the vitara engine bays jump around between models. :?
