hey guys im half way thru doing my steering box but i cant get the steering arm to come off. does any one have any tips for me .....im thinking about just cuttin the stupid thing off with the grinder ..... im also pissed at it lol.

Any help would be great.

buy a puller. they can be a bitch to get off.

Pitman arm puller.
Bearing puller.
Hyd bearing puller.

Tapping whith a hammer helps with these options

Heat also helps with these options

Or if you have a spare off already, grind a slot in the shit one, Then BFH

Get a heavy lump hammer and hit the edge of the pitman arm around where the tappered shaft of the ball joint is. Don't hit the joint, just hit the end of the pitman arm. The shock loading may free it up. You won't need to put your back into it, but 10 or 20 good firm hits should see it come free. If that fails, you'll need a tie rod puller :cry:

OH i read it as pitman arm. LOL

Normally a big bit of bar down through engine bay and a good hammer will knock it out. May damage thread alittle if your hitting the thread. but its just the end. Fix with a file.

At $52 you might be better off getting a bearing puller, they arent much more and are more flexible. I used borrowed one several times when doing my power steering. did the job well.

thanks heaps for the help lads, ended up going for the pitman arm and also went and got the puller, all up i think 3.5 hrs lol i couldnt beleive it i have changed gearboxes quicker than that. Was also going to do the diff breathers, but i cant be F#%ed
