saw tanshi's thread on doing a j20 conversion (I think thats what he's doing) but it looks a little tighter fit than a 4age (though I can't find one of those either)

Just keep in mnd that you will need an engineer onboard BEFORE you fit the 2.0L into a sierra in QLD. 1.6L is as big as you can mod plate without consulting an engineer.

Wish I had a spare $1K :(

Yeah I'm not convinced it would handle it either....
and its not worth putting in a Sierra transfer just for more power....

Too much Toyota stuff.... I'd rather put an LJ50 motor in it 8O
Its for my road ute project, and I am still thinking outloud to various people on engine options..... but I really really really WANT to keep a standard TC and diffs.

Really designed for a 50 motor I guess. The 800cc just sort of worked :? .
People used to run (and some still do); Corolla and Datsun conversions in them. 1.3 through to 1.5Litres seemed to be normalish. This still seemed to be viable with a standard Transfer. There is some sort of sensible limit, and I guess a J20 is probably beyond it...

You could always fit the J20 and see how it goes, but you should probably have a back-up plan for when the 80 case goes pop :?

Like bin the J20 and go back to a G16 or something... Seems rather silly. G16 is my "run out of interesting ideas" engine though...
Found a few cases of G13 GTI motors in them, thats about the "biggest" Suzuki motor I have heard of people putting in them with an otherwise standard driveline. Not overly keen on a GTI motor though...

it goes hard, i don't think i could handle driving a 1.6 vitara... it's pretty economical considering how much shit i give it. it is a really smooth motor, with a good usable power/torque range. it left polar_bears carby 1.6 vit for dead when we were both running 30's & I still had standard gearing.

after seeing how well the one slotted into tanshi sierra, you'd be silly not to seeing you've gone this far with the build up.

It's down to $800...

Is it bad that I almost WANT my G16B to die so I have a good excuse? It's not showing any signs of giving up, I just want more oomph, especially with the 31s and aircon...

we are down to the small annoying stuff now with my conversion.
hose clamps, finishing wiring.

I wouldnt hesitate to do this swap again. but not on my one and only road car. having to drive a 1.3 jimny powered sierra around for weeks after actually having power is annoying as hell.

It is. But the gearbox is the same for 1.6 vit and J20, and the RingR goes between the bellhousing and the gearbox.

The J20 bellhousing is 35mm longer though, so this may cause some issues with shaft length of the yota box.

G16B will be fine with all that mate. Quite alot of our suzuki based crawlers are running G16B or even less.
