Have a coily - and am very slowly heading down the planning stages of fitting an injected engine in place of the ol carby 1.3.

Started to have a poke around under the dash to find a mounting spot for the ECU.

Where do people tend to mount them?

Looks like there is a little, emphasis little, bit of room under the dash on the far passenger side, but getting in there to drill some holes is going to be a right pain.

What are the other options for a mounting spot?
What have other people done?

A lot have put it in behind the instrument cluster..
Just about any place dry will do, but that do put out a bit of heat, so best not rest it against a harness...

behind dash pasingers side up top. mount fuel pump and ecu relay on same bolt. i can try 2 get a pic of mine.

Mine is up behind the glove box, with my relays just next to it and the PC cord looped over a velcro tab nearby. Its no fully waterproof there if i flood the cab, but i only drive rocks so its pretty safe.

And I mounted matts ECU and TCM up there on the workhorse also. There may be a partial pic in his build thread.

I wrapped mine in a glad bag.Keeps dust out. And whatever water i hose it with.

mines tucked up under/behind the glove box with a little fabricated box and bracket thing holding it there.

I think behind the glovebox is the best place. There is a bracket that the standard emissions control box mounts to, you could use that. I would probably brace it a bit better though as the ECU is a bit bigger and heavier. Also keep in mind that the bonnet release cable is back in there too.

Due to the length of the wiring loom I had to mount mine on the driver's side. It is a PITA to get in back there (as you can see by CairnsZook's pic it can get a bit crowded). I pulled the dash out and made up a bracket to fit mine.

The GV model is under the glove box on the passenger side. It is prone to water overflow from A/C if for some reason water cannot escape, but other than this is high and dry.
After my subsequent mishap with A/C water mine is wrapped in a plastic bag. Quite OK to cover in plastic bag according to my mechanic.

It's easiest to mount behind the glovebox. That's where they are mounted on EFI sierras.

It's where I've put them on the EFI conversions I've done.

I also mounted mine up behind the glove box. Below is a photo of it with the dash removed. I also have a coily, I'm not sure about other models, but there are two captured nuts there to mount the ECU bracket on. So I didn't need even need to drill holes.

It seems they're there to mount an ECU in that position, as Gwagensteve said.

So can you get it in and out without removing the dash? or is removing the dash required?

I will have to go and have another look with more light.

Sounds like the 2 best options are behind the glovebox, or behind the instrument panel.
