Seriously though, Its way tall, the rear diff is so far back its pointless, the links are insanely long....could be 300-400mm shorter!!, The weight balance would be fucked with the diff where it is, the lower links strike the rail at rest , the upper link mounts are an abortion, the lower coil retainers are an 8 or 10mm bolt that will stop the coil from coming directly out, but if the coil turns for some reason, they will do nothing at all, and i can't tell from the pic, but it looks like the shocks will strike the upper link mounts under compression.

Thats just the rear end.

All I can say is, I hope the cab was worth what you paid for it, and I hope you have plans to reign that rear end in.

PS. What are YOUR plans for it?

Its not that one. It was a SWB chassis, and had a chopped SWB tub.

Mate for $300 its a great starting point.

IMO you need to move that rear diff forward atlest 10". you would benifit from moving the front diff forward 2-4" depending if you want to chop the front guards or not.

Before we start getting into the how you should and shouldn't build stuff dribble, why don't you sit down and have a good think about where you want this project to go. What mods do you want etc. Then worry about their execution.

Thats very vague. And you will continue to recieve useless 'advise' until you come up with a game plan.

Be particular. Do some research on other zooks you like. Get some ideas, then ask some real questions. I'm not trying to be a wanker, but you can't just buy a zook and then get everyone else to design if for you. This is something that YOU need to do.

If you have never built up a zook before i would suggest looking around and basing your buildup on proven rigs that perform well.

Start with the tyre size and wheelbase you want to acheive and go from there.

Coiled or leaf?

Ive only seen a small handful of successful coiled zooks. Most other should have kept their leaf springs.

There are a few buildups and photos that will get you going on here. Look at bluesuzy or mine for a start.

Hey mate this is what I'm building now a hard top sierra i have done the 1.6 efi vitara conversion hilux diffs and i have done a 3 link front with coilovers and when money allows ill 4 link the rear and run coilvers too.



I also had a 1986 with wide track Sierra diffs locker in the front with 6.5 crawler gears on 31s with RUF an followed my mate with 35s on there cruisers an pooptrols have a look around in the garage of a few different rigs and go from there

sorry mate should be fixed now um it really depends of how far you wanna go with it .

my old sierra on 31's when everywhere one thing i would have done differently would have been going chromo axles in the front so i didnt smash cv's apart

If I had both of then I would be keeping the Lwb chassis & using the ute tub, providing the lwb isn't rusted.
At least that way the lwb hasn't been frucked with, you don't have to chop all the shit out of it..

So you guys are telling me that the rear end of ute is Fu$ked and no way of changing it.
Is there much to change ute cab to long base and should I keep leafs or go to coils ?.

Can you get some more pics of the rear end ? I cant see it being to much of a problem changing it but I think if you fix the rear coil suspension and run some rear springs in the front mould work pretty well what size tyres do you wanna run?
