i went to start my zook the other day and it was really hard to start so i took off the air filter to see what was going on and it started
so it won't start with the air filter on when its cold but it starts fine with the filter on when its warmed up
has anyone else had a problem like this or know how i can fix it?

Has the air filter been wet at some stage? If it starts fine when the filter is removed then it may be blocked.

its a brand new filter element

Does the auto choke work ok? Are there blocked breathers? If you start it without the air filter then put it back in does the engine die? Just trying to think of ideas for you, none of them may be any help....

air horn is on wrong and stopping the choke from coming on
take top off and refit then see if it starts

Connect horn to stop lights, that will fix it.

off topic much anyway it may be that your carby needs quicker air because your air isnt working properly this was happening before i got my carby rebuilt

Hmmmm....

Drop around some time and I'll have a quick look for you if you like

It's hard diagnosing problems like this over the net. Maybe try some carb clean down the throat while it's running. Get the auto choke working again.

what sort of air cleaner do you have? paper, washable, or steel mesh?

its a round paper one i think the whole filter was made for a single barrel carbie on a crossflow

So did you do this webber thing real cheap get the carby of an escort and just put it on becase if that is what you have done it is no wonder these problems are coming about

not cheap but i wasn't gonna pay like 600 bucks for a new one
before the carby was put on it was rebuilt but yes the jetting is wrong
it doesn't use an adaptor plate like must people the manifold was modified by an engineering place to fit the weber properly
it has run before fine with this setup
i've only had problems for maybe the last week or so

i just remembered that i also fitted a new filter on the breather hose

That filter looks like it is big enough to feed that carby. Have you changed anything around the carby that could have caused this problem? Is the underside of the filter fouling on a linkage or vacuum line? It may just be a blockage in the carby itself?

are you getting any fuel droplets on teh inside of the aircleaner when its cold?

webers suck for standoff like that, maybe it building up inside
