nah not the barrel, just the immobilser, on a liana it bolts to and sits around the barrel, I reckon it would fit over a sierra barrel

plenty of other hurdles though, things like the vss being in teh gearbox :)

I used a relay & a flasher unit to trick the 4age comp into thinking it was doing around 5kph :D

did the constant ticking get annoying :)

you could give it a signal easy enough through the usual speedo vss but are they getting to be smart enough now to know what sort of revs they will see compared to speed for each gear? if its too far out it might upset it?

VSS is speedo sensor?

I haven't worked on an engine with computer control before!

Also, aren't we also talking about using the M gearbox with the M motor? or is that too hard also?

VSS= Vehicle Speed Sensor.

The M box is like the G16 vit box, where by it uses a remote shifter. This puts the gearstick where the transfer case hole is......

^ and ^^

Bugger and Bugger.

What about some kind of conversion from a standard sierra transfer drive into the electronic pulse it's looking for? I know we're getting back into complicated again but it's just an idea.

Well Before dissmissing the Mseries box, I'd look at removing the remote shifter and adapting a sierra 5sp shifter neck. Bothe Tanshi and I have done this to G16 boxes, and it works very well.

Weren't we dismissing the M box due to the extra power of the M15 over the M13?

I'm going to google to find out the figures!

makes sense. They aren't renowned for their strength. Although there is someone on this board with a turbo M18 infront of one...?????

Holy moley!

So the other obvious question is would there be a way to mate it to a G series box? or something else that would suffice?

Just an adaptor I would imagine. I reckon a vit box would be all you would ever need. But some slight tunnel mods and a new crossmember would be required.

Type 2 jimny M box is the easiest to use. Swap the sierra selecta shafts into it, get a sierra rear housing, Trim a tad off the countershaft and poss machine the housing a tad and you have a M series sierra box that bolts straight in. Why would anyone want to do anything else when its that simple

M sieries flywheel is too big to fit a sierra gearbox and as you know the sierra bellhousing is part of the gearbox. The sierra flywheel wont fit the M sieries engine either too small to allow the starter to fit to it, plus different bolt pattern

G16 box would fit  And you could easily plug an M18 in front of it

Has anyone had thought on what the grandvits, m16a box's are? Same as Jimny?

All the 2door GV's are oddballs! Like the 1st of the gv'shape 2door with a g16b. , yet the previous model had the J20..wtf..

Abit like how every small model suzuki runs a m series, then the sx4 jumps out with another j20..

So the Gv has m16, j20? j24 H27 and the terrible pug1.9

M16a I wonder if these models were the ones without lowrange?

e.g. http://www.carsales.com.au/Tig/UI/PageP ... allcarhome

Wheres the Steak Knife?

I asked him about this once, I think he said the bell housing is 14 mile long or something... Was definitely something I recall him saying made it prohibitive... (aside from the fact that maybe 3 were ever sold in Australia.... )

:helloo:

Shit, the gv3 has a stupidly long bell housing & concentric slave..

Not worth looking at..

Ok so to bring this thread up again.

Am I understanding properly, that the bloke doing the M18a into a Jimny in the rigs section, is getting around the problems we're talking about in this thread (with immobiliser shenanigans and gearbox vss issues) by using an after market ECU?

Which is not the point of this thread because we are looking for a conversion that becomes drop in without needing dyno tuning?
