Hey guys - my 4WD light has decided to stick on after using it today... obivously the switch is stuck, but how hard is the switch to replace?

I'd prefer to have it working but if its too hard i'll just unplug it and have no 4WD light at all.

Replacing the switch is quite easy.. It just unscrews with a 21mm ??? spanner.

Wouldnt it be the same process as when you swap a transfer?
Unscrew the switch, and replace. But solder the new switch to the existing wiring.

been outside all day so cant be f'd going and laying under there again.. but where the wire goes into the transfer case i assume is where the switch is?

SOLDER????? It just plugs in....
Yeah Alien just follow the wires to the switch.. It is close to the shifter.
Access is possible through the shifter hole but you have to get underneath to undo the wiring so undo the switch while you are there...

Don't throw the old switch away.... They are sometimes just gummed up and can be cleaned out with electrical contact cleaner and repeated depressing of the button.

ah-hah - awesome... ok so i've got the switch out... the button is stuck in the "in" position, i can pull it to the out position and it stays there, but as soon as i push it in again it doesnt spring back.

i'd say its shagged. =)

after you pull the plinger out, get in there with carby clean a few times, over a few soaks it will come good

lol really? what makes it spring back though? i assumed there'd be a spring inside thats snapped/corroded (even though the switch has gear oil in it).

by the time i go buy a can of carby cleaner and undo it again i might as well just replace it though.

i'll just have no light for now (put it back in unplugged).

i've always just cleaned with petrol or blasted with inox =P

I'm swapping my 1ltr transfer in now. My switch doesn't seem to have a plug. Just a hard wired switch..

There should be a switch screwed into the transfer with about 400mm of wire with a two pin plug on the end.

Oh righto so it's not on the transfer end.

its attached to the tcase not the lever.

stick your head underneath, and where the front driveshaft joins the tcase - just below that is 2 wires coming out of the case... below the 2 wires is a 20 odd mm nut (i just used a shifter to undo it). Now where the rear of the tcase is theres a plastic plug - you need to unplug that before undoing the nut otherwise it gets all twisted up.

Mine will come on in 4wd, but going back to 2wd it will stay lit.... untill I hit 60kph or so.... :S then she flickers off... good enough for me!

Oh yeah sorry. I meant the plug part wasnt directly part of the switch on the case. Its further up the wiring. I magined it as being on the switch. All good, the 1ltr trans is in and my switch still works so im

This, contact cleaner is ridiculously good, although remember if you're using it on 240V gear, it IS flammable and conductive till it evaporates off, and if you don't let it dry out for long enough it will go boom!
