Just got a Arb winchbar for my Sierra and just wondering what winches fit in it other than the warn ones.

i have the aldi 9500 pound winch in mine its a very tight fit but all i did was get a pair of vice grips(duck bill) and just bent the back returns out from 90degress to about 70 degress where it needed it. oh and best recovery item you could ever have

You guys are overlooking one VERY important thing here.

The bar is not DESIGNED for more than a 6000lb winch. The mounts are far too light duty for a 9000lb winch.

6000lb is enough to get a zook out of trouble.

Who knows. It may just shorten the life of your bar and or chassis. All I am saying is that the bar is not designed for that sort of load. And given ARB's mounting system ON THE SIERRA, I would not like to find out the hard way.

As a side note, what is the strongest winch you would think safe to mount on a zook? Do you sell winch bars yet?

go for it zooky08, engineers design a safety factor into everything to handle twice the force intended to to placed on it. So if its rated at 6000 pounds, it breaks at 12000.

do you still have the "out riggers" ?


if not you only had 1/2 the number of bolts holding it on so you've only got yourself to blame.

So how does that make the ARB bar weak?

It's like saying suzuki's are weak because my wheel fell off. I only had two wheelnuts on at the time though.

Well they are not weak if the are bolted up properly
Mine wasn't so I suffered the consequences

Was it because you didn't use the out riggers? Did you use crush tubes ?

The arb outrigger mounts were cut of so that was half the strength I didn't have
The chassis is very thing nd it doesn't take much to rip the holes out
I had crush tubes

I was pulling my friend of a tree
The force ripped half my bar off
Was just Hanging of one side the chassis
Snapped two of the four bolts
And riped and bent my mounts on the bar

It really does pay to have all your mounts
But mostly don't snapstrap from your bar if only have half the mounts

If you want to run all the mounts, then get used to running 29" tyres.
