i have been looking into snorkels and i see most of them are for the drivers side which is alright for me because i'm still running a carby motor but i'm thinking down the track i might go efi so what i'm wondering is there a way of running a drivers side snorkel on an efi suzuki motor or is is possible to use a passangers side snorkle on a carbie motor?

Once you go EFI you could make a pipe that goes over the motor and into your EFI manifold. It wouldn't look all that neat but no reason you couldn't do it.

There are no off-the-shelf passenger side snorks available AFAIK.

You can, but then you have the problem again of getting the piping over to the other side of the engine (if you are still carbed). I mounted the stock airbox on the passenger side of the engine bay when I had the Megasquirt running on my G13. I drilled the spot weld out on the mount that the single bolt goes through, and tek screwed it to the same position on the other side of the engine bay. For the other two bolts I just used M6 metal thread (booker rod it's sometimes called) bolted to the inner gaurd, it was pretty easy.

as long as the pipe work has no holes you won't have a problem how ever long it is.

there is no fuel in the air till the carby.

no air speed goes up as it goes thru the carby.

the only time you would worry about how long the pipe is if you had a suck thru carby turbo or supercharger set up.

ok so as long as its all airtight and as straight as possible it would be alright?
would it be bad having the air box near the extractors?

if its air tight and doesn't restrict the air flow you should be fine.

as long as its not to close, i'd put some exhaust wrap or a heat sheald up if its pretty close. if you wouldn't leave your hand there its to close.

would where the jack mount is be far enough away?

yes, there are wires running under that i'm pretty sure and they don't melt.

am i better off using the factory airbox or using something else?

You should be right Mike , just leave your airbox were it is and run a pipe accross the engine bay and when you do change the motor you'll be set , Cheers Paul.

is there some other sort of air box i can use?

Get a stock one, that way it will bolt straight in

stick a pod or uni filter on the top of the snorkel then run that to the carby

i'm not a fan of pod filters on top of snorkles what about putting the pod filter inline at the bottom of the snorkle?

you can do that but you still need to make a box. just use a std one with a k&n filter in it

But what's the advantage of that? You might as well just use the stock airbox. Check what Mart did with his.

its only a 1.3, its not going to use all the air that can go thru a filter unless its really blocked.

best thing to do is get a stock filter box and mount it where you want, run some pipe to hook it up then later down the track put a different filter in if you want. my last car just had a stock filter, box and had enough air for a turbo'd 1.3

The airbox won't restrict anything, it's the type of filter you have inside it.

i didn't think of it that way i forgot you could get different filter elements for the standard airbox

so in that case whats the best sort of filter element that you can get for the standard airbox?

You can get finer filters etc.

The air flows through it better.
It will let you engine "breathe easier".
When it gets dirty you can wash it and re-oil it.
You can get one for the stock air box.
They don't cost much.
They are available from pretty much any car parts store.
just buy one.
