I'm trying to get to my Vitara transfer guts to install my reduction gears.

For the love of god I must be missing something. I cannot break the transfer away from the gearbox! I have undone all external 12mm bolts around the case near the gb mount and also the next set of 12mm further up with no luck. I'm not going to tell you how hard I've hit the prick just incase I have missed something! Ha.

Thoughts and advice apreciated.

Btw I have the whole gearbox on the workbench.

No. I understand there is only one 12mm bolt going into the transfer case at the back of shifter housing? The front ones are directly into the gb?

Do these front ones need to come out to split?

If I recall correctly, yes.

Still, it won't hurt for you to take the shifter off.

Need clarification. Please.
The shifter housing of the gearbox has to come off first,
before transfer case will come off
(not the transfer shifter?)
Tho that comes off to fit the gears anyway.

I been studying the fitment of crawler gears,
getting closer to purchase.

that is correct....


At least I know it is for a manual. What about the auto?

shifters a cable, so probably be easier, hopefully

Pulled the transfer out today.
With an auto, body lifted LWB Vitara,
You can get T-case off without dropping the auto out
With the gear shifter out, there was enough room to get at the top bolts.
Removing the cross member left access for the rest.
Had to use 1/4 drive though,
1/2 " was able to crack a few,
but not many,\
dont have a 3/8ths set,
but a 3/8ths could fit.
Also the hidden top long bolt,
is not hidden by a gear stick in an auto,
it is a cable shift.
