There is ment to be a circlip on the end of the cv inside of your free wheeling hub right?
My cromos arnt sticking out at all for the clip to go on
Should I pull then out till I get a circlip on them, then push the axel back in untill it comes to rest on the circlip

Yeah, on normal ones there was a thread in the end that I screwed a bolt into so I could pull it out.

x2 use one of the hub bolts on the end of the cv shaft. they fit perfect.

As long as there will be enough spline inside the locker after I pull the axle out to get the circlip on I'll be happy

it should only come out about 5mm, anymore than that and you might have another issue?

The axle spline is about 2 or 3mm inside the hub spline
So it'll be more the 5mm to get the circlip on

Have you done up the hub tight (leaving one hub bolt off of course? should not be more than 5-6 mll clearance, should just be enough to get the circlip over the notch in the spline. Perhaps you have too much silastic in between the surfaces?

perfect cause the circlip is usually just in front of the face of the inner hub spline... only about 1mm movment. So if it is set right you should see the notch and perhaps another 1mm of spline. Good luck.

Turn the whole hub and brake assembly from steering lock to steering lock. The centre of the CV joint is supposed to be on the centreline of the Kingpin axis (Make sense of that?) By turning the hub assy, you will self-centre the CV on the Kingpin axis and push the outer axle out.

As others have said, there should be a thread in the end of the axle shaft to thread an M8 bolt in to pull the shaft out and hold it while fitting the circlip.

I'm having a similar issue.
I've tried jiggling the axle while pulling and turning the hub with no luck.





Looks like I need another 3mm.

Everything has been torqued up as per FSM. I'm thinking that the rear seal in the hub may not be tapped in far enough.

Any other suggestions?

I had heaps of trouble with one cv,
problem was mud hard packed around the rubber boot area,
once cleaned out had plenty of room for the circlip.

I realise a Vit is different set up, but still an area to look at

Is the rear bearing seated properly? Did you replace bearing races? It might be the seal as you suggest

The cause ended up being me pressing the rear seal in to far, causing the rubber on the seal sitting between the bearing and where the bearing sits on the stub axle.



All good now.
