For those who bought a kid from the states, with just mounting brackets. Quite sure for both vits and sierras.

What have people done to stop water getting into your rear bearings through the gap left by the caliper bracket?

Just not wanting to get water and dirt in areas that shouldnt get water and dirt in them.

I know the benT kit comes with a metal insert. Guess i can make one up myself one but woundering if anyone else has come up with a quicker and better solution..?

As you know, BenT's kit addresses this with a spacer.

You would just have to use Gasket sealant, do a BIG bead that will cover the gap. You'd need to use sealant on the recessed face anyways.

I use grey gasket sealant.

That's fine, but what about the big hole in the center????

The big hole of the brake rotor adapter? That butts up against the stub of the axle.

The big hole of the caliper bracket, The recessed part sits in the end of the diff. With my Vit it has that backing plate that holds on the drum brake shield thing. I put a bit of sealant around it and it sits flat against the brake caliper mounting points.

Still a hole mate.... the axel still need's tobe able to turn, so unless you fit an additional seal (then you have to lubricate it ) shit will still get to the bearing..
That's why the bearing's are sealed, even the std drum's let shit in top the bearing....

and tring to seal it all up will just make it worse and collect more water and mud, as once its there it cant escape again

One of the reasons I don't like rear disc conversions for semifloat axles.

I've seen a few of these conversions (done various ways) and they seem to chew bearings and axleseals.

Mines already done
I don't like that the axel supports all the weight of the car
Don't mind changing bearing either
It's much easier to pull the axels out with rear disk then stock drum setup now
Will deffently go full floater down the track.

The axleshaft supports the weight of the car in semifloating axle. Zooky08 was comparing semifloat with a full float axle.

So, in a nut shell.

Recommended to keep it open to let crap out, but expect to have to change axle seals and bearings more freaquently than usual.
