Hey guys

Has anyone brought standard ome springs before ? Not lifted ones just factory sierra ride hight ?

As yous know by now im doing a spoa and I was going to buy new springs, the plan was to get the standard springs and remove the load leaf,

Would that make the leafs invert being that they are standard hight, or would I have to get 2" lifted ones then remove the load leaf

My goal is to get the springs flat

And if yous are going to cry about the spoa, plz dont post ok just info on my topic

Cheers guys

I don't think OME make stock Sierra springs

I have OME lifted springs in my SPOA sierra. They have been under the car for about 2 years now i think and they are pretty much flat now. I am running standard lifted packs in the front and standard lifted packs in the rear with the load leaf removed and it performs well.

If your after new standard height springs and can't get OME ones i found this website a while ago, and have ordered a few parts from it. Here is a link to standard height, brand new leaf packs.

hope that helps...

Ome dont make a standard Sierra spring.
Ome are very soft, so having the leaverage and axle wrap of a spoa(bad setup) will soon destroy the springs. I would try ask a custom spring place, maby efs, or kings?

If you run flat springs you are either:

Not going to have much up-travel if your bumpstops are setup to minimize spring inversion.

Or

Get up travel but invert your springs to a fair degree that they will start to sag very quickly.

IMO your best bet is to get reversed eye springs or get those OME main reset inversed and get the pack with some camber. That way you can set up your bumpstops correctly but still maintain up travel but not kill the spring by running it in a heavily inverted arc.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer (IE stock springs)
OME = Old Man Emu (Aftermarket)

Im sure if you ask for some flat OEM springs here you will have them given to you for free, as they are generally thrown away.

I really want to have a cry about spoa, but I wont.

If you insist on it I too would think a custom made set for the purpose would be the way to go.

Id use you standard (factory) springs before I'd use a lifted spring.

A reversed eye spring with ~40mm camber will give the same 'lift' as a dead flat spring but will not go into inversion near as much as a flat spring..

yeah lovells are a reverse wrap - i had them in my zuk too, they were a great spring and never sagged.

as far as the SPOA goes you're doing the right thing running them as flat as possible. my leaves invert after about 3 years use, so you do get a pretty good run out of flat leaves IMO... if you use springs off a wrecked sierra you'll prolly find theyre nice and flat anyway, and cheap to replace!

Thats not really correct. You can set up a SPOA with correct bumpstop spacing and not hurt the springs. In fact, you should have a little more clearance when set up correctly. 50mm gap is plenty, and if you want to be tricky put a celica or datsun 'collapsable' type stop for even better compression control.

Use standard leaves with an OME extra leaf. Extra leafes, or 'XL's' as they are known are readily available.

Mr Joe, so is that how you setup your bumpstop spacings? With 50mm of spring inversion?
Do you know how much spring inversion stock SPUA have when on the bumpstop?

Dan

ive got about 100mm between the diff and bumpstop at standard ride height, my leaves are dead flat, so im pushing 100mm of inversion out of mine... they go further than that too, but the tyres rub behind the headlights.

Stock would be about 25-30mm. By adding an extra leaf you can have a little more but 50mm would be the max.
