Hi All,

I went to change my timing belt and water pump today, but found that there was a bolt for the cover under the water pump that was really hard to get to.

My question is: do you normally remove the alternator to get at that bolt?

I packed it in for the day as it figured that if I have to remove the alt
I may as well throw a falcon one in while I'm at it.

What's everyone's thoughts?

You pull the belt and water pump pulley off but you dont have to pull the alternator off

I dont know that any cover bolts are hard to get to, I can do a belt in an hour so it must be easy if it was hard it would take me 2 days to get round to it

1 hour for you probably means two for me.

Still means a easy job.

if you remove the fan belt, then the fan and pulley for the waterpump along with the fan shroud youll have a heap more room and everything will be a lot easier to get at

I looked at removing the shroud, but I thought I could reduce the workload by leaving it in.

Probably, false economy.

its a lot easier to pull the fan and shroud out in one go and its an easy shroud to move

then you have more room to swear at the big crank pulley bolt

haha... I was kind of hoping I won't have to change that one.
But I better do it anyway then I shouldn't have to worry about it again.

You were so right. Much easier.

Now it's just that stupid F@$#^&g crank pulley bolt.

Put a socket and power bar onto the bolt and lean the handle on the passenger chassis rail. Then just give the key a flick. The starter will spin the engine momentarily and the bolt will come undone

Well that was a bust.

Ended up with a flat battery.

I'll try again next weekend after I buy a decent sized breaker, and a new battery.
