hi guys,

looking to put some 6.5 trail creeper gears in the sierra. It's says on low range that a late model front output shaft is reconmended, just wondering if you guys recomend this? Mine's a 95' if it makes any difference?

my mate is also looking at putting the gears in and his is a 92'. is it worth him getting the output shaft?

I got one - Dunno if it is necessary but I figured I would do it anyway.

By the way, when you put the case back together, leave the detent ball out.
This allows you low 2wd as well as 4wd.

I cant remember the name it was given but you modify a shift rail to allow you to slip across from 2H to pull the high low shift rail into low

Yeah you just have to use some other shift patterns - Having twin stick just makes it easier.

so how do you get to 4wd - low or is that the same as the original pattern and this is just extra

you can (apparently) modify the shift rails to get a reverse S shift pattern as mcwilly said.

from what I can work out you would need to shorten the Hi-low shift rail and machine an extra slot into the 2-4 shift rail. wouldnt be that hard to do.

It's not that hard to grind another gate into the 2 - 4 wd selector but the problem is to go back to 2wd in Lo you have to push the shifter to the left and forwards , this causes the shifter to fowl on the boot/floorplan and can cause it to pop out under load possibly damaging the front dog coupling. If it does pop out it usually does with some force and then your gearshift will jam and will need to be removed and the gates re- alligned and the shifter put back in. You can modify your shifter by bending it but then it hits the other side , you would need a longer boot to make this a successful mod , better of with twin sticks , there's nothing like crawling under a zuk in a mud pit to remove the shifter , Cheers Paul.
